I think it is important for me to fade into the background of the photos, but I do like to make a nod to the overall festivities.
Do the nail polishers among us have a recommendation for a copper colored polish that doesn't require many coats?
I used to LOVE the Sally Hansen 'chrome' series, for just this reason, but they seem to have been discontinued ages ago.
I think something snapped in me after seeing people get trampled in Walmart a few years back. I don't think I have left the house to go shopping on BF since.

I haven't had my nails done since the early 80s, so I am waaaay out of the know on this sort of thing.
To be honest, my nails are not worth manicuring as a rule. Paper thin and peely. But, since it is a special occasion and I'm unlikely to use any bottle of polish I buy, I figure it makes more sense to get them done.

I think my, never-again moment was seeing people go completely out of their heads for the Tickle Me Elmo doll...whenever that was.

It does. And there's so much behind it - the economics of big box stores, the factory conditions where all of the stuff was made, the stagnation of american salaries over the decades... I don't personally get the thrill of the Black Friday chase. I try to stay out big box stores all year long, so there's no way that I'm lining up for BF madness. And there's no way I'm giving up Thanksgiving to start waiting in line on Tuesday to get a plasma screen tv for 1/2 off (even if I could afford it, which I can't). So my feelings about it are part temperamental, part personal/political.

This particular friend is a fan of the local, professional football team, unfortunately named after native Americans. They played a team from, I think, Texas yesterday. There were repeated (printed) shrieks of "Scalp them! Scalp them!"
It's the sort of thing I could never imagine this person saying in front of an actual human being, but because it's just a game...or whatever...it's okay.
I'll spare you my rant about how people seem to be blind and deaf to their impact on their personal environments. (cellphones while walking the dog/baby are at the top of my 'list.')
But this, otherwise, thoughtful person's outbursts really set me back on my heels.
