These girls have the most beautiful dresses. And so do I -- how about that?

Spike's Bitches 47: Someone Dangerous Could Get In

[NAFDA] Spike-centric discussion. Lusty, lewd (only occasionally crude), risqué (and frisqué), bawdy (Oh, lawdy!), flirty ('cuz we're purty), raunchy talk inside. Caveat lector.

this mess was yours / now your mess is mine

I need more shopping help from buffistas. I'm looking for a non-wool, non-down winter coat that is still warm, at least knee length, preferably petite, and not much more than $100. I think I may be kidding myself that I am going to find this, but if anyone has any website suggestions I'd be very grateful.

Look at the LL Bean Winter Warmer coat: [link] I just bought one, and I like it a lot (although the sleeves feel a little tight, but I suspect that is a function of my fat arms and not the coat). I *think* LL Bean is doing 15% off right now, too. Let me look in my email and see.

No it's 10%, using the code NOV10 at checkout. t edit Ahahaha, it's at the top of the LL Bean page for the coat. Steph can't read today.

"There are few hours in life more agreeable than the hour dedicated to the ceremony known as afternoon tea."

I think what I really want is a coat that looks like a traditional wool coat but isn't wool.

Hmmm. That, I can't help with. I'm sure such a thing exists somewhere, though.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

I think what I really want is a coat that looks like a traditional wool coat but isn't wool.

What materials are okay? That would make the search easier.

By not wool, are you including other animals, so you want it polyester or something? Or just "wool is itchy but cashmere or alpaca would be fine" kind of thing?

Matilda's got a fleece coat that looks a lot like her previous wool coat.

Wool, cashmere, alpaca and down are out because I'm highly allergic to all of them. I used to be able to get away with the boiled wool of a coat (as opposed to a wool knit sweater), but the last couple of winters they have caused too many asthma attacks. So, I think I'm down to cotton and man made fibers as things I'm not allergic to.

I've looked at some of those, but I have wondered if they're warm enough for a north east winter.

Days shrink and grow cold, sunlight through leaves is my song. Winter is long.

sj, you can get a fleece coat with a nylon or quilted nylon liner. The fleece is snuggly warm, and the liner stops the wind. Still not waterproof, but fleece dries in a flash and is still warm when damp. Plus, fleece is ultra lightweight compared to wool or other natural fibers. (Loves fleece). And as Hec says, you can usually find something styled like traditional wool.
