Epic: HOORAY!
smonster: OUCH!
Ryan: No, not a dinosaur, but something else ancient and very nearly extinct... that is a depiction of an adult woman with what used to be known as "pu-bic hair".
Anyone else find it suspicious that there just happens to be a flock of minio... um, peafowl running William's old nabe? Hmm?
My adventure for the day: A friend of mine is stuck out in Long Beach with elderly parents who refuse to leave in spite of the stern admonitions of the National Guard. My(and Kate P's, actually) friend S has a Prius so off we went, braving a fair stretch of no power or gas and doing our best to not look like looters, and sweetly persuaded the men with the swirly lights at the bridge to let us in an hour and fifteen minutes before curfew ended.
We were pretty amazed at just how much has been accomplished. Roads are cleared of downed trees, boats, etc. We dropped off the stuff and made it off the sea island before it was completely dark. (And MAN is it dark. No street lights, no traffic signals... dark.)
We had about 5 seconds of "Made it to the mainland!" relief before remembered that we were on Long Island now and while its not a mandatory evacuation zone we still had a whole lot of way-more-densely-populated than a place without street lights and traffic signals should be.
When we GOT to the mainland it was "Woo hoo! The Bronx!" (which is just a damn funny thing to say) and we managed to get into a gas line which was only an hour long.
Got home and did a few things and now I can't so much sleep. Eh, it figures. But D and her parents have a nice (aka - made of PERISHABLE food) dinner tonight and some more supplies for the next little while. Here's hoping that a) Wednesday's n'oreaster skips them completely and they get things running again or; b) the Guardsmen pull weapons on her parents and chase them onto a truck.
