I've been having mouse issues in my apartment. So far, this has happened around this time every year I've lived here. This time, my landlady decided that it's because my kitchen isn't clean enough. I admit that it's not sparkling, but it's not filthy, either -- there are some crumbs on the counter, and the floor could probably do with being swept more often than I do sweep it, and there are a few splatters on the stove that I didn't totally wipe up. But all the food is put away in the cabinets or fridge, and I never leave dirty dishes lying around.
Anyway. Today, she and the handyman came into the apartment while I was at work, to set up some mouse traps and see if they could find where the mice were coming in from. (She told me about this before hand.) She sent me an email with an update, telling me that they'd set the traps, and that she'd cleaned my kitchen. She totally scrubbed down all the appliances and counters with bleach, and she went through my recycling bin and took out all the peanut butter containers, because those can't be totally cleaned out, and she says that the little bit of peanut butter left in the containers attracts mice.
This is weird, right?
This time of year rodents are attracted to warmth and shelter. Did she remove your furnace and your roof, too? Because the peanut butter jars are not the culprit.
Yo, Sickos! Sending out the health~ma.
And here I thought the slow pace in Bitches was designed to give me a shot at keeping caught up.
My killer cat keeps the mice away. I can't say this isn't upsetting at times, but she is damned effective at her job.
Of interest to some people here - 2 cute corsets on sale for just under $20 until 7pm (Pacific):

HIl, that's way over the top. I guess she's freaking out?
Nora, way to go! I'm exhausted just reading about all you've done. Also, texted you - I'm going over there when Robin gets here (which I hope will be soon).
Thanks for the brackets. I made it through the afternoon literally 15 minutes at time using the timer on my phone. Stretched some when I got home, it's not really helping yet. I've been sleeping on my side instead of my back because of my stomach, and I suspect that's a factor. Time to switch back.

Yeah. My apartment is attached to their house, so she's afraid that, if I have mice, then she'll have them soon, too. I told her that I was planning to hire Molly Maids to come once a month or every two weeks or something (I'd been considering that for a while), and she seemed relieved.
She also said that it's been worrying her for a while that I sometimes let a few weeks worth of recycling pile up in the bin before bringing it out to the curb, rather than bringing it out every week with the two or three cans and bottles in it. I told her that I'd start bringing it out every week. (She says that she doesn't even wait for the weekly recycling pickup -- she brings her recycling to the big public bins ever day.)
She sounds like she may not be cut out to be a landlady.

Haaaaa, yes. Feel free to relay some tales of my tenants, including fights that brought the police, broken windows, stolen appliances, and the urine and feces of several dogs and a cat on the floor for weeks on end while the tenants went away.
