Worked for three hours, it started pouring, we knocked off, now it's sunny. Fuck you, NOLA weather. I'm doing a brain dump and am going to try and be super productive until 3 pm or so, when I will start drinking. Yay for sushi happy hour and generous friends.

It makes me a teeny bit sad that, having heard this from a facebook connection, the DEXH does not want me to see him be 'old'.

Oh, man. That's tough, from both sides.

Which reminded both of us of how my great-grandmother always complained about living at the retirement home because it was full of old people. She was in her 90s at the time and those "old people" were all younger than her, strictly speaking.

My grandmother on my mother's side worked on up into her 80s as a home health aid - "taking care of old people" is what she called it.

Rick, I like your story! Awww. And now twins! :) But it also kinda makes me sad--I mean, when I was born I still had two great-grandparents around, and while one grandparent died when I was about 10, the others all died while I was in college. So I had time with them, and remember them well. But if I have kids, no great-grandparents for them, and given that my dad turns 72 today (and is not in great shape) who knows if they'd even know their grandfather? Sad.

When I'm around people my age, I think, "Who are these old people, and why don't they understand the internet?"

Thanks to (memfault) whoever posted (here or Natter...or...Movies...crap, can't remember) about the showing of Frankenstein yesterday. I was surprised that not only was it playing in SD, it was at my local theater in the 'burbs. So I caught the Johnny Lee Miller Creature and Frumious Bandersnatch Frankenstein. I was pleasantly surprised by Miller, I don't think of him as as strong of an actor as Cumberbatch, but he quite impressed me. Spoiler, Frankenstein's still an ass...and Miller managed to make me have both more and less compassion for the Creature than previously. Well done.

Epic, I'm glad you liked it. The lady in the row in front of me and I both agreed that we liked the other cast better, so I was worried that people who saw my less-preferred iteration would be underwhelmed (even though I'd totally say that it was "really very good." It's just the comparison. The two actors are a bit apples and oranges.), but that seems to not be the case based on your response and those of my family and other people.

The soundtrack is on iTunes. I need to get a copy of it for the sunrise music, if nothing else.

I've done a couple of things I needed to do, but one of them was updating my budget and now I want to curl in a ball and take a nap. It's looking more and more like when my lease is up in November I'm going to have to move to a cheaper place.

I was surprised by how many people apparently weren't familiar with the book. There was an audible gasp when he killed Elizabeth , which surprised me (other peoples' surprise, that is). I was...sickened, almost, by the rape. That either wasn't in the book or was couched in such euphemistic terms that I missed it in the book...anyway, like I said, less compassion.

I found some of the music a bit intrusive, but you're right about the sunrise, that was lovely.

I really would have loved to see the other version too. I'd love to compare and contrast the Creatures. Well, maybe they'll do a DVD...which I will think about acquiring after I remember to get a copy of Tennant's Hamlet...

I'm one of the youngest in my generation - both of my mom's parents were gone before I was born, my dad's both passed before I was 20, and the two Steps are both gone now (the last was in 2000) so almost all of my cousins and my brother knew them better than me. I am amazed by people my age who are only starting to lose grandparents - when I'm worried about my mother. Lifespans is weird, yo.
