My brother got released from the hospital today, and tomorrow morning he starts an outpatient rehab program. Each successive day I talk to him, he sounds better and better. His liver enzymes are rapidly dropping back to normal, so he shouldn't have any permanent physical damage.
Hec, I asked him the other day if he wanted entertaining, distracting stuff, and he was Captain Grumpypants and said no, he just wanted to watch Storage Wars on cable. So I let him be grumpy. I told him if he wants entertaining stuff in the future, the offer is open.
Storage Wars might be just what he needs.

I'm so glad, Steph. He gets to be Captain Grumpypants for a while, right? It sounds like he did this just in time. It feels especially relevant to me, I guess, because my BFF is going through the wringer right now with her alcoholic mom and her alcoholic boyfriend.
There are times I'm too stressed out to even watch tv. Then I watch, like, Pawn Stars and American Pickers, because I don't have to think enough even to follow a plotline. Frankly, I think that's why those shows are popular.

That's totally how I got into reality tv in the first place, for sure, at a time when I was so sunk in quicksand in real life that I couldn't handled scripted tv at all.
Pawn Stars was kind of amusing at 3 AM in the ER. Thank God they finally put TV in the little rooms in the ER, it was horribly just staring at the walls as the hours crawled by.
I wonder how people in that state of mind follow soaps - which have the most complicated plots ever. Yet I do know that when I was growing up several neighbors used soaps in exactly the way people use reality shows today. I'm guessing they ignored the plots and focused on the pretty and the acting?
Teppy, I'm glad to hear your brother is doing so well. Continued ~ma to him.

With soaps, they often remind you of the relevant plot points constantly, so you don't really have to follow closely or even watch every day to follow the stories.
Cooking shows and hgtv for me. Most reality shows have too much drama at that point.
Glad to see that your brother seems to be moving forward. Does he know yet that he has hundreds of strangers pulling for him? I hope it helps
