Spike's Bitches 47: Someone Dangerous Could Get In

[NAFDA] Spike-centric discussion. Lusty, lewd (only occasionally crude), risqué (and frisqué), bawdy (Oh, lawdy!), flirty ('cuz we're purty), raunchy talk inside. Caveat lector.

We won’t stop until everyone is gay.

So. Trigger warning for anyone who has eating issues, especially those created and/or reinforced by family. Excerpts from a Vogue article by a mom who put her 7 yo daughter on a diet. Life moves pretty fast. You don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it.

My lovely husband is back from a LONG week away. I have two hours until I get off work and can go home and actually see him and it is making me antsy. We are going to see Rock of Ages tonight and revel in the cheesiness. Sadly, I am sure I will know every word of every lame song in the show.

In a coincidence of when discount tickets were available, we are going to see American Idiot on Sunday, so it is a weekend of rock musicals.

I know my own heart and understand my fellow man. But I am made unlike anyone I have ever met. I dare to say I am like no one in the whole world. - Anne Lister

That Vogue article just gutted me. Poor little Bea.

Thrive to spite them

I just found out there's a "Career Expo" on Thursday, I guess it's like a job fair. Part of it is geared towards high school students, but the afternoon will be open to the public and adults.

I've never been to a job fair before, so any advice what I should wear/take or what to expect. Take besides copies of my resume I mean.

Sometimes I think I might just move up to Vermont, open a bookstore or a vegan restaurant. Adam Schlesinger, z''l

I just bought "The Inspired Vegan" by Bryant Terry. Just like his other cookbook, this one suggests a song to go with each recipe, and also either a book or a movie. I wonder how he decides which songs go with which foods. Some of them make sense, like "Salt Peanuts" by the Pointer Sisters goes with a recipe for paprika peanuts. Savory Grits with Sauteed Broad Beans, Roasted Fennel, and Thyme gets "Walkin Blues" by Robert Johnson, and Wilted Dandelion Greens with Hot Garlic Dressing and Garlic Chips is "Bessemer Bound Blues" by Ma Rainey.

Hmm. That dandelion green recipe looks really good. I wonder if/when the farmers markets around here will have dandelion greens.

The status is NOT quo.

Dammit. The vet is keeping Mia (our elder kitty now at age 12) overnight to give her fluids and do bloodwork. She’s running a fever and hasn’t eaten in two days. I really can’t handle more kitty stress so soon after Byron. Please let it be no big deal. Also, I know this vet visit is going to cost upwards of $500 that we really don’t have. I hate that I even have to think about that, but I do.

This really isn’t the way I wanted to kick off my Spring Break.

Oh, I'm starting to get it. Each meal has a theme. That one was traditionalish rural Southern food, so it got old-school blues. The next one is more urban, some more modern stuff and focusing on ingredients that you can get at most supermarkets, and that one has sixties and seventies protest music. The next meal is all made of stuff that's in season during the summer, and each recipe has a different version of "Summertime."
