Hey all, I know we've talked software and banks in here before (I know because I just searched and found snippets) but I am readying to set up a business account and my QuickBooks and ideally I'd like the most integration possible. Those of you who use both (I think I saw that Stephanie does) any practical advice or "what not to dos" that you learned when you were setting yourself up?
I currently bank with B of A but their nearest ATM has a very annoying location so I've been tempted to sign up with Chase just because of the ability to photograph a check with iPhone and upload it! But my mortgage is with Wells, so I've been thinking of switching over my personal stuff to them, for the free, but yadda yadda.
Insight please? I have researched a lot but the marketing material doesn't let me know real picture sometimes. For that I really on y'all.
My business update is: too busy to do anything and I owe Amych all kinds of stuff for the website she's creating for me that it doesn't even look like I need (I mean, I need it, but the lack of same has not stopped clients from contacting and hiring me!).
No insight on Quickbooks integration, but I've been loving Ally online checking. It's free (in fact there's interest), they refund all fees so you can go to any ATM you want, and upload checks for deposit. I've also heard they have great customer service, but I haven't had to test that myself. If it works with QB, I wouldn't hesitate. The ATM thing alone makes me love them.
I have never even heard of Ally (I mean, without Kate)! Let me check them out! Thanks, Megan.
ETA: Checked em out and they look good for personal banking but don't offer integration with QuickBooks or anything.
Oh, that's a bummer. And odd. But I given up trying to figure these things out. My VA Barclays Visa seems to offer only Quicken and Quickbooks, but not Money; however, it turns out the .qbo files import into Money just fine.
If you are at all credit card inclined, you should look into Wells Fargo's home rebate card, if they still offer it. It pays 1% of your spending on the card right back into the principal of your house. I've probably saved a couple thousand dollars that way over the years just on regular expenses.
Sorry, no help at all on the business end of banking. But I love this thread more than anything... it's so empowering. Back to lurking!
I know that my finances are probably way more complicated than most because I have a client trust account and a bunch of extra attorney regulations. But if I could start over again I would pay a bookeeper to set up my QB file and show me how to track certain transactions. I spent all day yesterday close to tears with my accountant. It mostly related to my divorce but also partly my tax return for the year. It is seriously the one part of running my business that I hate because it makes me feel stupid.
Dude, I wish I could help you. I'm pretty comfortable with my version of QB, although I don't know about your legal side of stuff, but I had a great teacher when I set up, so I'm pretty good at explaining how it's supposed to work.
And java, yes, I use BoA and QB integrated, although much to my chagrin I only recently started the integration, thus realizing I had spent literally years doing work I didn't need to. It's pretty seamless.
But I am getting ready to move my business account away from BoA to National Bank of Arizona, because my local BoA are the devils who shook a finger at the SO and accused him of trying to cheat them, when we were trying to cash out a cashiers check that we got at their request! for the land loan.
The last couple of times we were in there, they were all, would you like to meet our new manager? So, I guess they knew she was a problem. But still.
The NBoA doesn't have the photograph deposits, but they do have a little thingy you can get where you scan the checks in so you can make deposits remotely. Once I can do that, I can do it anywhere, which was why I was with BoA to begin with.
BofA has photograph deposits? Since when? Last time I asked one of their tellers, they said "not yet". And their ads since then have had a marked lack of that feature.
Liese, is that an actual mini check scanner you've been using? If they offer photographed deposits, what ita said! I can't find it on their site. And yeah, your experience realizing that you've been doing duplicate work all these years is just the kind of reason I am trying to figure these things out before I start logging expenses.
Sassy! Thanks for the de-lurk! I will check and see if Wells still has that offer.
