Hrm. So, it seems the 'anything' messages come through easily. For some reason, the 'bonny' ones get delayed. What on earth could cause that.
Buffista Business Talk: I wanted simple, I wanted in-and-out, I wanted easy money.
A virtual watercooler where Buffistas in business can talk, share, exchange, bemoan, exult and assorted other power verbs associated with all areas of running/starting up a business. Erin, are you talking about form 1040-ES, or something else?
Yes, 1040-ES. I worked on it for three hours, and it's all based on last years gross, Dan's and my gross, where's the form to do business expense deductions quarterly (IS there a form? I want a form!) and do I do the home business and utility deductions in April and OMG I am so getting an accountant if I have to whore for it.
It was really confusing, and I'm a pretty competent researcher. It's all like, I've been in business two months; how the fuck do I know how much I'll have made by 12/31? $300? $10K? (HAHAHAHA.)
Sorry for the barrage, but I've been keeping careful records and then I got to the IRS stuff and I was all "WTFF?"
ETA: bonny, I know you got the one message, but FWIW, I did sent emails to both addys.
Oh my sweet weeping moses.
My own 'bonny' test took 5 HOURS to arrive. How can that be.
Erin, I did ultimately receive both your tests. Thanks for that.
Mystified.
Erin
I was in the same position last year since I started my business in April (which means I had wages in 2009 and for the first part of 2010) and was doing consulting work with no sense of what my income would be. The explanation is bit long but I'd be happy to discuss in e-mail (profile addy is good) if you'd like. It may not be the best way and I might still get audited but I was comfortable that every decision I made was rational and could be justified - which is what I always hope for with taxes.
It's really unlikely you'll be audited. Probably the worst that can happen is a fee for underpayment.
lcat, THANK YOU. And insent to profile addy.
I don't have billable hours to clients, but I just set Toggl.com up to track my daily activity - because most of it has not been directed where it needs to be for the last month -- and I think it will work really well for that.
Thanks to the person who recced it. I can't find the post.
I am all manner of chuffed that I actually got thedoggylama.com up and out... only one and a half hours late!
Part of the tardiness was installing a calendar with my BARE hands! Color me the techie badass.
I did have to have my web guy fix a spacing problem that I could not have created or fixed. Coding gremlins were afoot. Beyond that, though, it looks pretty great.
There are only 7 blog posts and my goal was 10, but this has been a cuurrazzy week. More to come soon.
I also sent out my constant contact email blast announcing the shiny new website, partnership and events.
Iffn you'd like to be on my mailing list, send me the appropriate email address to my profile addy and I'll, um, addya.
The web guy is hopefully installing the cc subscription box on the website today. He's been busy too.
In short, I went to bed at 5, got up at 9, just finished the various things and now have an appointment with a people client I have not seen in a year.
Deep breath. Drop those shoulders! I'm a little wound up.
eta: Erinn, I remembered to add you to the email list after it was sent, so just now rectified that. The newsletter should reach you in a few.
Congrats, bonny! 1.5 hrs late is early in tech time, as far as I'm concerned. Frankie whuffles his approval.
