Greece's financial crisis threatens to take down all of Western civilization - a civilization they themselves founded. A rather tragic irony - which is something they also invented. - Jon Stewart

It's a nice, flat, sidewalk-ed route? My on-the-mend feet still have me a bit wary.

"We are the Goon Squad and we're coming to town...Beep! Beep!" - David Bowie, "Fashion"

What do we think a taxi from South Street Station to House of Blues/Fenway Park would cost me?

I'd say in the $20 realm, but it's been a long time since I took a cab in Boston so it might be more. The T would be cheaper, but it would involve switching trains at Park Street (Red to Green; Green to Hynes stop, or Green to Prudential, which is connected to the Hynes, if you get on an E train instead of B, C or D). Time of day will determine how long either take, but if it's anywhere near rush hour they're both going to take a while.

No major hills, and there are sidewalks. I don't know if there's any construction going on around there though.

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

Yeah, South Station to Fenway is probably $20 in a cab, and almost definitely worthwhile with a gimpy foot and luggage and whatever. (The bus and T aren't that close together, if that's how you're getting into town.)

Hynes to Fenway is less than a mile, and should be an easy walk. Or a cheap ($6?) cab.

"And to be clear, I am the hell. And the high water."

others are reporting that Rush's words were sarcastic.

I refuse to listen to his voice or catch sight of his visage - I will not be demonically possessed this week.

Then we can have fun quoting him out of context. GOOSE MEET GANDER.

Re: Boston Peeps

Sweet. Thanks. I'll have a small bag so I'll likely bus to T to T to feet it.

Why did Darth Vader cross the road? To get to the Dark Side!

I listened to a couple minutes of Rush. Sounds like sarcasm to me. So no, Hell didn't freeze over. Ah well.

Jesse - thanks for the kick-ass. I'm not sure if that will work, but I'll try it. My "matchmaking" interview is in 40 minutes and I'm a bundle of nerves.

Helicopters are very complex and are sometimes known to fail even with the best preventative maintenance

Every Coast Guard helicopter flies with a mechanic on board. That's how fragile they are. Which is why BSG amused me: the Coast Guard has 3 mechanics for every pilot, and on BSG, the proportion appeared to be reversed.

So, no, it doesn't surprise me that one of the choppers had mechanical problems. But each of them is worth, like, $4M (or more)...

I am profoundly uncertain what to think about Bin Laden's death, except that I'm not sure I'm required to have an opinion, either.

He won't get to hurt anyone else, which is good. (I had no expectations of redemption.) And the people whose friends and families he killed feel better, which is good. But his death doesn't mean the US is pulling out of Iraq or Afghanistan, and it won't stop people with fixed ideologies and hardened resentments from trying to blow other people up.

So while it's a relief that he's finally dead, I don't think things are actually going to improve much as a result.
