Thanks again for the wealth posts--I was trying to imagine this character but was mostly drawing a blank. Now I've got stuff to go on....
'Serenity'
Natter 68: Bork Bork Bork
Off-topic discussion. Wanna talk about corsets, duct tape, or physics? This is the place. Detailed discussion of any current-season TV must be whitefonted.
That is the most disturbing story about online fame ever. If that's the sort of thing people hear about the internet, no wonder they're terrified to let their kids get on FB.
Yikes.
Nice thing about conference calls from home? Being able to do your nails and be productive at the same time. Got the new OPI shatter polish, so now I have glittery gold polish, with black shattered over it. Looks pretty cool.
The richest branch of my family varies in attitude. Some of them coast (semi-successful pro athlete one, mentally ill but never tries to do anything about it other) and the others work like dogs. I mean, seriously, why do you need three jobs if one of them pays you three figures, and you have a husband and two kids, one of whom is special needs? But they're the Swiss boarding school, BMW at 16 kids whose lives I just never quite understood, even when I was living with them.
If I were independently wealthy, I'd quit my job and create the Gothic Charm School/JilliLand fashion empire. The main reason I don't quit my job NOW and give that a shot is that I like us to have financial security and health insurance. Because I do think I could create a successful fashion company, but I have to be a realist about how hard it would be to start up.
I would love to see many of the Buffistas rich enough to pursue some of those dreams. And thanks to everyone for the good will.
Note to medical practioners. One thing you probably should not say out loud while examining a conscious patient. "What the hell is that? I've never seen a growth like that before. Nurse have you ever seen a growth like that before?"

But according to the article, you still wouldn't feel financially secure.
I know everyone has problems, and rich people have feelings too, but it's really hard not to roll my eyes for much of that article. People are suffering hard, and being asked to suffer more, but we can't take even a little of that wealth that's making these people oh so unhappy, because people might not like their Christmas gift this year?
And not for nothing, but I'd bet if distribution of wealth were more equitable, there'd be fewer kidnappings.

And if women didn't dress in such short skirts, there'd be fewer rapes.
Okay, okay, COMPLETE hyperbole. But let's rest the blame for kidnapping where it belongs--on criminals.
goodness, TB. F for bedside manner.
Consuela, I read that whole story during lunch yesterday. I could not believe how permissive her parents were. I get that she was getting bullied at school, but what about another school? What about limits on what she could say online?
I can't believe we don't have a single lurking venture capitalist.
