I really need to figure out what do with with my smartphone before I head to London. Not that Hec's ass ever calls.
dunno about your brand, but if you put it in airplane mode and then turn on wifi, you'll be fine (if you're not planning to make calls). That's what I've done every time I leave the country. I figure if I NEED to I can turn on the phone, but generally I just leave it in airplane (so I can use non-internet apps) and then hook up to wifi as needed.

I was doing some research earlier that gave me the same advice! I'm thinking about doing that, and perhaps buying an unlocked GSM phone and a local prepaid SIM card for to talk to people.
The bonus is, in airplane mode, the battery lasts forever!
But seriously, I spent two weeks in Europe, a week in Peru, and a week in Mexico in the past few months, with that strategy, and it worked out fine, no extra charges.
Kat so sorry about your friend.
Condolences, Kat. And sarmeg is absolutely right. There was a woman who was a dear friend of my parents when they were your age, who died young. But she is absolutely vivid in my memory, golden and singing and generous of heart, because of their stories. Your friend can be that to the twins; you can keep him alive in your stories.
Congratulations, msbelle!
I'm sorry about your friend, Kat.
So that malware I thought I had gotten rid of last night. I hadn't. AVG and Spybot was telling me there were no infections, but my browser was highjacked. I think malwarebytes finally got it. I am still a little paranoid, though.
Now I have to pack and head to CB for the long weekend.
Kat, I'm so sorry. And I have one of those friends, too -- I don't know if I ever actually met him, but I definitely know his stories from my parents.
