And Kaylee, what the hell's goin' on in the engine room? Were there monkeys? Some terrifying space monkeys maybe got loose?

Why did Darth Vader cross the road? To get to the Dark Side!

OMG Kat's kids are ADORABLE and Alexie sounds fantastic. So glad it was a good day.

I went to stretch class tonight and am now relaxing with cheese and wine. And sharing the cheese with my cat. So good. I might need to go get more cheese.

"I keep to a strict diet of ill-advised enthusiasm and heartfelt regret." Leigh Bardugo

OH!

I had the worst training EVER about the gays at work on Tuesday. This guy who is in charge of the anti-discrimination unit came to teach us to be nice to the gay kids. Doozies that would have made Buffistas growl:

1. He said kids these days use the word queer because they like the fluidity. I mumbled under my breath that people like queer because they think of themselves as non-heteronormative.

2. When he asked who knew about Stonewall and only X number of people raised their hands, he actually said, "Well let me educate you."

3. He actually said the words equitability and comfortability as opposed to equity and comfort.

I wanted to say, "You are the reason we gays can't have nice things."

It could be worse. My yearly anti-sexual harrassment training is like a monstrous construct of evil double speak.

OK, only tangentially related, but at Franny's back-to-school night the other 3rd grade teacher proudly presented her technique for teaching paragraph writing and nearly every element made my inner comp teacher weep. But the worst by far was the comment, "I teach them to spice up their writing with '25 cent' words, like instead of writing 'I was happy' I tell them to try 'I was ecstatic!'" Cringe. I mean, I see why she thinks it's a win, but oy! If she only knew how hard it is for college comp teachers to retrain students to drop the "plethora" and just write "many."

comfortability

I'm going to arbitrarily define this as the scale used to compare competing comfortadors.

Oh, wow. My family. The drama from my grandmother's death earlier this year has involved squatting, eviction proceedings, trespass, breaking and entering, and theft. By more than one person. And that's not even counting the rifles missing from the gun cabinet.

Oh, dear. I'm sorry.

All sorrows can be borne if you put them into a story. Tell me a story.

Yikes!

I've only see the first episode of Person of Interest and it mostly made me wish Global Frequency had been made.

Oh, I know. I used to give my students a list of ways to simplify words.

"Faded like the lilac, he thought."

But plethora is so satisfying! And then you know I'm smart! Harumph.

I went to the thing. I enjoyed myself. It's annoying when social anxieties turn out to be unwarranted. Heh.

Anyway, now if only I can shut my brain off enough to sleep. I'm already a half hour past my stated bedtime.
