Calli: My people have a saying. A man who trusts can never be betrayed, only mistaken.Avon: Life expectancy among your people must be extremely short.

This following is probably taking Gus more seriously than he deserved. But I started thinking about trickster mythology. If his deceptions had not been so hurtful (making people going through tough times think they were getting a free car, pretending a real person had died) some of his shit might have been funny. He tricked me into thinking he was building a real life star trek replicator and when I figured out he was lying (when he made a bullshit excuse for why it was not published) my reaction was to laugh like hell while saying "taken!".

And what I thought about was the multiple aspects of trickster. There were trickster figures like Herschel Opostrolier who were civilized jokester. Many of their "tricks" were simply wit, and all their humor from wit to practical jokes was aimed at deserving targets. Then there were figures like Til Eulenspiegel whose "humor" included boiling dogs alive, and shitting in public baths. Beyond asshole to pyschopath. And it is not that Gus deserves comparison to Trickster, as that the trickster trope is a way to understand a certain kind of asshole. It also applies to the high school kid of writes "Fuck" on a bathroom stall, starts a trashcan fire, and pulls the fire alarm. A kind of destructive impulse that most of us learn to control shortly after we are toilet trained. Don't know if it provides more insight than simply using the word 'asshole'. But I think maybe it does.

We won’t stop until everyone is gay.

I have no request, but I'm taking the sockmonkey clicky option if I get one. I can't believe that I didn't even consider that Darth Cheesecake might be him.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

You're making an equation between Trickster and liar that I really don't think exists. There's a difference between Trickster mythology and people that pull tricks.

I’m responsible for my own happiness? I can’t even be responsible for my own breakfast! (Bojack Horseman)

I feel kinda...left out. But in a good way.

Ha, me too.

I almost fell over though when I saw that Raq and Victor had friended him though.

Remember that the frontier of the Rebellion is everywhere. And even the smallest act of insurrection pushes our lines forward.

Don't know if I'm making an equation. I'm considering whether mythology can be a way to understand real life people. I do know that there are attempts to classify people according to mythological types. You are probably right that it has no more validity than a lot of those incredibly stupid personality classification tests many HR departments use.

"I remember when they eventually introduced that drug kingpin who murdered people and smuggled drugs inside snakes and I was like 'Finally. A normal person.'” —RahvinDragand

I'm glad I was forewarned by reading about it here first, because that friend request would have dropped my jaw if I'd run across it later today while performing Facebook-y job tasks.
