Woe to the fucking wicked.

Is it a mob front? It sounds like a mob front. Or some sort of super-secret, quasi-governmental organization. Oooh, let's go with that.

Friends don't let friends read "Atlas Shrugged"

Or a place that's in the process of going out of business (unless everyone's working from home).

This sounds fun.

It's a law firm, I think, but nobody who works here is named any of the names that the law firm is called.

brillig

Be careful about pushing any unlabeled buttons on the desk, you don't know what might unfold or discharge.

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

I had a temp job like that once! Near the elevator on a floor that wasn't the main floor for the company (so no one came in that way) and answering the phone in a place where everyone had a direct line (so there weren't many calls). The credenza was full of paperbacks, so I guessed the person I was filling in for didn't have any other significant responsibilities. Good times.

Because books.

No fire, Sox. His dad is in the hospital.

Maybe it's a mob law firm!

It's five thousand for kissing, ten thousand for snuggling... End of list.

Not that atypical for an old firm; those people are dead.

I used to work at a place where the reception desk had a panic button - seemingly a few people had wandered in off the street and scared the receptionist. It rang in a back area where a large, former Marine sat. Great idea. Only it was out of sight, so she could press it with her knee ... which she did several times. Often enough that when someone did come in and hassle her and she hit it on purpose, no one came.

It's the LITTLE things that always trip you up.

Ooh, I suppose.

I don't think anyone has their own line, so I do have to forward all the calls, but there are very, very few of those.

It's honestly the easiest money I've ever earned, so I promise I'm not complaining. The whole place is just... odd.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

Leaked naked pictures of Scarlett Johansson.

No, there's no link. I'm not actually interested.
