I don't like the Beastie Boys, either. Go ahead, shun me.
Other musical heresies I hold dear: Songs by Joy Division AND The Rolling Stones work best when other bands cover them, so they have better vocals.
Off-topic discussion. Wanna talk about corsets, duct tape, or physics? This is the place. Detailed discussion of any current-season TV must be whitefonted.

Jilli, I love you unconditionally, but you know, this hurts.
I love Paul's Boutique for all sorts of reasons including it's ridiculously good, but Check Your Head just seems a little bit dirtier to me. Something's Got to Give was the first track I heard off of it, IIRC.

I know, I know. And I accept that it's due to something missing in my brain, not any flaw with the Beastie Boys. There are parts of their songs I really like. But most rap just doesn't work for me. Don't ask me why I like Public Enemy, 'cos I can't explain it. And it's not like I really listen to them anymore, I just don't make the squinchy face of dismay if I hear them.
I did watch some of the Licensed to Ill tour video and was so appalled. I think they've spent years trying to beat the shame.
The Beasties played at my 18th birthday party.
Now I'm dead.
javachick killed me.
I have two boxes of every script Tim ever wrote stored in my closet, and the brass monkey from Wonderfalls on the first bookshelf to the left in my living room. First Buffista to come offer condolences to Kristen can have them.
I was mentored by dear musician/activist friends who were signed to Dead Kennedy's label. They had a warehouse/activist/art coop kind of deal (Komotion International) and that's where they threw me a huge party - or, rather, used my 18th birthday as an excuse to throw a huge party! So, Jello sang me Happy Birthday and threw some endearing profanities my way and then the Beasts played a set.
I have to admit that I was incredibly (then and now) square to the point that I was still listening to 60/70's music then and barely knew who they were. So, sadly, the entire affair was nearly lost on me. But years later, I look back, and I'm like "okay, that was pretty awesome?"
I do not think you need to bribe anyone to offer condolences to Kristen!
