Not so nice is that I'm about to ruin a Friday morning for a bunch of people because of a series of unfortunate events and an upset foreign government. - shrift

Just got a ping from a BC contact that she has no power and wondered if I did. Is the western seaboard down?

I am telling you people... the apocalypse is fucking nigh. I'm waiting for the plague of locusts to narrow down the exact date. 2011 can go straight to hell.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

Ah, maybe she does have power and just heard about me.

San Diego, LA and Orange were (are?) out in parts. And some of northern Mexico.

Wow, that's weird. How did I see about this on b.org and not elsewhere? Yeesh.

That happens to me with scary frequency.

Hope the power gets turned back on soon, West Coast.

Maria, those pictures on FB are devastating. I'm so sorry.

Jen, the water was that high in 1996 and 2004. It's still going higher. Only Agnes in '72 will surpass it--that was 30 feet and change.

This is three major floods this year: March, April, and September. I can't ever remember that many in the same year, ever.

Thank you all for the good thoughts and ~ma. I'm so damned lucky to have you.

So come, my friends, be not afraid/We are so lightly here/It is in love that we are made; In love we disappear

Maria, I am just gobsmacked at the amount of shit that's been thrown at you this year. No words except I am sorry, and I wish I could help.

We're vaguely thinking about selling our Civic and getting something that can tow a small camper. Umm. What the hell would we get?

That is, by the way, a serious question. We've had the Civic for almost 5 years, and haven't actually considered replacing it before now.

We are Buffistas. This isn't our first apocalypse. -- Pix

According to NPR, 5 million people are without power because someone in a power plant switched out a piece of broken equipment wrong.

WTF.

I hope the port makes your life easier, ita.

The power's going to be out for a while [link] Without the Arizona intertie, Southern California doesn't have many options. It is, sadly, a predictable result of not building the ugly NIMBY power plants, but buying power from Arizona instead.

eta: The unfortunate employee was doing routine maintenance in a substation, where power from transmission lines is stepped down to a lower voltage, and did something that tripped the transmission line. Something went wrong with the safeguards that should have isolated the fault.

I just skipped 600+ messages. My life is filled with vomit and stuff I can't deal with. Work blows, but for the first time, in like ever, I don't have the largest classes in the English department -- the largest is 72 and I top out at 50.

I also think I'll be at either the UCLA ER with Grace or urgent care with Noah in the next few hours. FUN.

Anyhow,

Did anyone mention that Rio is an editor for Rookie?
