Giles, if you would like to get by in American society, then you are going to have to follow our traditions. You're the patriarch. You have to host the festivities, or it's all meaningless.

Allyson, I think LA is just a particularly grim place to date.

All sorrows can be borne if you put them into a story. Tell me a story.

Of course, I should probably leave the house more often and meet people.

This is the same problem I have.

Now tagless for your comfort.

Local fantasy author, Patrick Rothfuss' Facebook status: "Last night I had a dream that I met Joss Whedon. We hung out and chatted. Apparently, he drives a Prius."

I believe he is one of us.

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

I just tweeted that the WiFi at the bar I'm at sucks, and they tweeted me back that they're working on it, while I'm still here! I am simultaneously appreciative of the customer service, and feeling exposed, though the place is packed. CAN THEY SEE ME?

Creepy!

Sometimes I think I might just move up to Vermont, open a bookstore or a vegan restaurant. Adam Schlesinger, z''l

Thanks, Hil! That's awesome! She is very interested in Judaism because her BFF is Jewish and I want her to have good info.

JewFAQ is generally a good site for info on Judaism -- I usually recommend it to people who want to know stuff, because it's got information on nearly everything, and googling for info on Judaism is usually not the best idea. It's written from an Orthodox perspective, but where other types of Judaism differ significantly, he'll usually note it.

Actually, now that I look at that site a bit more, he doesn't really note differences between Orthodox and others as much as I'd like. The section on women's roles, especially. But the history parts are good.

Wait, is this real-world child support, where the money goes to buy food for the kids, or MRA fantasyland child support where the women just buy Ferraris and cocaine? -Jessica

Nope. I found my wife the old fashioned way: going to a Buffy season finale party.

DO YOU HAVE ANY IDEA HOW MANY BUFFY PARTIES I HAVE BEEN TO?

Yeah, Kat. It is totally grim. But I'm fairly cute and awesome, so I have that on my side.

And none of us deserving the cruelty or the grace -- Leonard Cohen

Kat, that is so frustrating, I can't even imagine. Talk about Hulk Smash.

Why can't things just work?

You are indeed. I love going to Idaho because in Idaho Falls, I'm comparatively healthy and attractive, but also comparatively thin. And unlike the two 15 year olds in the Grand Teton mall dressed in garb that make the Amish look fashionable, I'm also not part of a polygamist cult!

What else besides ramen can you scoop? YOU CAN SCOOP THIS WORLD FROM DARKNESS!

That seems like a lot of work just to attain lifelong happiness.
