I just think it's rather odd that a nation that prides itself on its virility should feel compelled to strap on forty pounds of protective gear just in order to play rugby.

And then Ortus came and said "It's Ortin' time" and they all Orted off into the sunset

There's apparently a chance the entire NYC transit system could be shut down this weekend:

"And to be clear, I am the hell. And the high water."

Jesu Christo. Man, I hope this hurricane does minimal damage.

Because books.

I just saw a tweet from someone I know in NYC who said she's apparently in an evacuation zone of lower Manhattan, if it comes to that. I thought it was hitting farther out on Long Island, but I guess it's impossible to tell.

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

Holy crapballs. There was a crazy flood in 99 or 2000 that shut down a lot of the subway for the morning commute, but that was such a fluke. Also a mess. Although, hilariously, I got into the office about the time my coworker who lived nearby was calling in that she wouldn't make it.

Huh. Just lost a post. Weird.

I am driving back up to PA tomorrow since they've now ordered mandatory evac for visitors here (Del. beach) and are strongly suggesting that residents skedaddle. It's fine with me, but I just got back yesterday. Should have just stayed up there, but I haven't been home here since July 31st!

While I was gone I trashed my old laptop... which was probably more than five years old, so, it had a good life, and got a much lighter and peppier new one.

So, if my Nano has all my music, etc. on it, and I download iTunes to this computer, when I synch, will the Nano upload everything? I could probably google the answer. But, while I'm here, thought I'd ask.

Every now and then, I think I might actually be a little odd.

Not this morning, but yesterday I finished a spreadsheet that takes measurements in inches, computes the lengths you need to draft a bodice, sleeve and skirt pattern black, and makes them available in centimeters and fractions. I am pretty proud. I just hope I chose a method that will work fairly well.

Sophia, that's pretty cool.

K bought a new car (elantra touring -- with seat warmers

That's what I have! I love it! I don't have seat warmeers, but I do have a sunroof.

I'm probably not in the storm's path, although I expect we'll get heavy rain and wind. I'm concerned about my sister, on the Virginia coast, with all the big trees around her house, and my friends in NJ and NYC. The folks on tv are saying this will be the OMG Worst Storm Ever. They've already declared a state of emergency in Maryland.

hip deep in pie

Jen, no it won't. You can move stuff from your iPod to iTunes, but you may lose some metadata. And I have had friends wipe out their ipod when it synched with an empty iTunes, so I would make sure it was set to manual synch.

Thanks, Sue. I will investigate further. Damn, I hope I can save all this stuff.

Were we talking about ROUSs earlier? Because holy fucking shit. Marcy Houses is not my neighborhood, but it is WAY TOO CLOSE IF THOSE ARE LIVING THERE.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

That is indeed the rat in question.
