Allyson, tweeted and FB'd. I hope GM responds. With their tail between their legs and a shiny new gas pedal, if not a brand-new car.
Consuela, I'm so sorry. The whole thing sounds nightmarish, and really stressful for you.

Dear newspeople:
North Anna nuclear plant has not declared an "emergency." It has declared a "notice of unusual event," the lowest level of emergency declaration. NUEs are declared based on specific criteria from the NRC. An NUE can be declared for everything from an approaching tornado to a piece of equipment that's going to be out of service for a day longer than tech specs. Nuclear plants nationwide declare a couple a month. The vast majority of NUEs are declared because of mishandling of medical nuclear sources and people stealing glow-in-the-dark signs.
Once again, chill.

Looking around my house, I think there might have been an earthquake after all. That's my story and I'm sticking with it.

We must have a goddamn earthquake every day.
Well, that's not quite as wrongheaded as I first thought, Consuela, but obviously a much huger hassle for you than it ought to be, in a just world.
I'm imagining everything that could fall off. It's....well, guess I'll go home and see.
The news is telling me that Boston felt the quake, but I certainly didn't!
Also, I mean, unless I'm missing something, it sounds very much like you will never actually be considered for this job.
Well, if they cancel & reannounce with "selective placement factors", which are specific requirements necessary for the position (beyond a degree or x years of experience), then they will be able to hire me. But it's going to be tricky defining them.
Frank, we were probably most likely to feel it because my actual office area is on a beam that bridges two buildings across a street. A coworker said, "Am I drunk?? Or did the building just move???" Hee.
Apparently other people in the buidling here felt it. Things are a little hectic in my area, so the building shaking probably just felt like par for the course for the last two days.
