I want the house Tom linked to! Now that my DH works in NY, it's an investment, right?
And, I have to say, tax-wise, having my DH in NY in what we can call a "temporary" position, is going to be AWESOME. I may make him work temporary in Manhattan permanently.
Also, Westchester County is the only place I know that makes my property taxes look tame.
"Color them all gray." LOVE.
I think you should buy this house.
I think I'm going to be the heretic who says the exterior of that house is really unattractive. As appealing as it would be to have a chauffeur's room and a wine cellar.
Also, Westchester County is the only place I know that makes my property taxes look tame.
True, but it's still cheaper (or on par) with paying, basically, 2 mortgages, which is what I have now with the coop. (Mortgage on my own apt & maintenance fee which includes property taxes and underlying mortgage on the building.)
[eta: Also, high property taxes are one reason the schools up there are so good. So there's that.]
Also: Happy birthday, Steph!!
Happy Birthday Steph!
On zillow, what is the Zestimate?
I like this little baby house. The kitchen isn't perfect for me, but it has a lavender bathroom and within walking distance to work, and is on 3 buslines. I don't actually have a down payment saved up, and now I feel like I could lose my job any day now!

That is the problem with being an "assistant"-- your job is so tied to your boss, and it seems to almost never work out to get a new boss. Especially since I do almost nothing assistant-y (like scheduling her calendar or answering her phone) and instead am basically charged with doing what it takes to get the whole non-academic part of classes off the ground.
