Kickass essay, ita.
Commutes I have had: 12 miles, 60 minutes (summer internship, but it was my dad's commute for almost twenty. years.); 30 minute on a bus or 12 (very stressful) minutes on a bike; 20 minutes on a bus or 35 minutes (very hilly) walk; 20 minutes in a car, with the occasional 45 minutes to the office. Now, I commute from my living room to my kitchen, but it's farther than you think. I should get a fitbit and track it.
Man, I discovered a cable outlet in my living room, so I tried to move my modem over there, but apparently that wire isn't connected (I suspect it was the original Cox wire, OMFG), and so I moved it back, and my router had forgotten its identity, so THAT was fun to redo, and then I decided to hook up my printer. In conclusion, this tech klutz totally earned the entire TJ's chocolate caramel bar with sea salt that she just ate. Also: my network is now named
mockingjay.
My shortest commute matches Cash, if I go into the office it is more like 15 minutes with free parking.
My commute is basically rolling out of bed too. Roll out of bed, usually fall off the ladder because tops bunks are scary when you are not a morning person, put on my uniform, and shuffle off to whatever part of the ship I'm working in first. It's nice to be able to wake up 20 minutes before work and be on time.
My commute is about 20 minutes in the morning, but closer to 40 in the afternoon thanks to traffic patterns. 'Tis weird.
I'm packing, I swear!
However, when I need to be at 4:00 AM, I just don't go to bed.
I need to be functional for a work conference tomorrow afternoon, so not sleeping probably isn't the best choice for me.
Aaaah, alright then. That's a different story.
Last night was the first night in over a week I'd slept more than 3 hours. When it's your last week on a ship, no one ever lets you go to bed. It's been rough. I saw 4:00 more times last week than I really care to.
My commute is about 80 minutes door to door. I live a ridiculous distance from the city centre. Leaves a lot of time for reading, though, and because I got on at the third stop, I'm pretty much assured of getting a seat at least.
My shortest commute was walking across the street. My longest was a 1 hour drive down a mostly country road and then back at night.
For my school-year job, my commute is 20 minutes getting there, 35 getting back (thanks, rush hour!) For babysitting this summer, it's going to be about 25 minutes each way, but there's going to be a bunch of extra driving because I'll be picking up kids and things. Also there's my apprenticeship at the vintage store (20 minutes) and the warehouse where I get books for my flea market booth (25 minutes). And it takes like 45 minutes on the Metro to get to Eastern Market on Sundays.
In conclusion: I am kind of busy!
