>Thanks, Pix. We didn't really expect to win. We were bouting a more experienced team and they had a jammer that seemingly phased through our walls at will.
I said this on FB, but we saw the Cincy Rollergirls vs. Chicago this weekend, and Chicago's jammers were apparently just teleporting. Wily little buggers. Chicago is very definitely #1 in their division (are they divisions? I can't remember).
The halftime "show" was a beeramid-building contest. For reals. (Only using plastic cups instead of beer cans.) My favorite part of this is that, on the sidelines, there were FOUR separate groups of people who weren't competing in the beeramid contest but had built their own beeramids because they were beeramid fangroupies. Seriously.
Most of the sponsors of the derby team were establishments from my neighborhood (restaurants, bars, hair salons, coffeeshop), which is awesome. Every time they announced one, I would yell "Northside REPRESENT!"
I don't know why Tim goes out in public with me.
Seriously--two things that popped up in home/car ownership recently have been mitigated by a smart, reliable plumber and an awesome, matter-of-fact mechanic. Instead of a spendy $1K sump-pump replacement, we got a clog removed and the septic pumped on a Sunday for $600. Instead of a costly $1K A/C repair on the van, the mechanic said he can do a fix for $300 that bypasses the expensive part in the rear of the van.
Still sucks to spend that much but $1K is MUCH better than $2K.
Amy, really sorry about the layoff for your SIL.

Yes. West, North Central, South Central, and East. Was it the Chicago Outfit or the Windy City Rollers? Both those leagues are TOUGH.

Because you're made of AWESOME!
Oh good, the Sherlock convo is entirely spent yet. I was busy and was worried I'd come back and find everything had moved on.
Oh, where I am to be found, it shall never be entirely spent. I'm trying not to be TOO "likes carrots!" about it, but, hey! When a childhood fandom gets rebooted, it's hard to stop talking about it. (I swear, it was just supposed to be a time filler while I waited for Doctor Who to come back. Now my work-at-home TV is divided between classic Who and Brett Holmes.)

Windy City Rollers. Their defense is impressive, too, but it was their wily little jammers that just made my jaw drop. I think the final total was something like Cincy 80-ish, Chicago 160-ish. Ouch.
We lost 156-23 on Saturday. It's tough to lose by that much. Windy City Rollers were in the WFTDA National Tournament last year. They do, indeed, rock.
Argh. I have a meeting at 1 that I forgot about and don't want to go to. At least I'm wearing a dress.
Plei, talk to me about Sally! Where did she come from, is she in the books, what's her deal?
