Natter 68: Bork Bork Bork
Off-topic discussion. Wanna talk about corsets, duct tape, or physics? This is the place. Detailed discussion of any current-season TV must be whitefonted.
Yes, France! Calli and I and several of our neighbors and friends are renting a house in the south of France that belongs to a couple of my friends in London. (Don't ask how I came to know a couple of guys in London who have enough money to have a second home in the south of France. It still boggles my mind. I remember when they were a couple of dudes in Seattle.)
Anyway, yes! It's going to be so much fun, and I'm really excited. I'm exercising austerity measures in the meantime (or trying to) in order to afford it.
I have an old vcr in the closet you can borrow, amyth, if you'd like another look at the tapes before sending them on.
Books that were different on rereading: The Great Gatsby made so much more sense at 19 than at 15. I never liked Daisy, but I understood the guys better the second time around. And I appreciated the prose style more, too.
Thanks, Calli! Maybe I will. Nostalgia fest!
The perspective of adulthood: the EPA guy in
Ghostbusters
seems a lot more sympathetic now -- the WERE keeping toxic material (of some kind or another) after all, and endangering a city.
Just back from the market. STRAWBERRIES! Yes, they've been there 3 weeks, but they keep getting better and better. Took my neighbor's summer tenants (well, the wife and 2.5 month old) to the market as well. Very sweet couple, and am glad to help them explore Baltimore (especially her, since he's here doing a rotation, so verybusy, and she doesn't know anyone here.) It's gotta be hard, moving every few months.
They're really liking Baltimore after only a week, and I'd like to help them see the best parts of it. And they are such adorable new parents. While she went in to put away the tons of stuff she got at the market (heehee! I've created an addict!) husband came out to just cuddle and make noises at his son. "I miss him when he's not here."
OK, gonna go pedicure now
Timelies all!
Washington Folk Festival this weekend. There's a few performers each day we want to see, and we can browse the crafts. Weather looks nice, too.
Glad you got strawberries, sara. We got Rainier cherries. Too bad our cherry pitter went kaput.
Last night I went to prom at the LA Athletic Club. Interesting and pretty space, perfect for our tiny school. The school hired a caricature artist that was super popular. I am, as ever, exhausted now.
Also random, we were at dinner with the kids Pre-Prom. When we walked in K ran into someone she goes to Krav with and the waitress was animatedly waving and saying, "Hi GRACE!" Waitress volunteers at Grace's school and the Krav guy looked vaguely familiar. He and his wife and daughter came over. Wife looked super familiar and was pathologically charming. By this morning, I realize it was Rena Sofer. Pretty people in LA + attempts to charm you to death = most usually actors? Do I have my math right?
ooh, I need to get some Raniers too.
It's raining here, again. DO NOT WANT
I totally have, "but it still works syndrome". I am at this very moment struggling with the fact that my pre-Intel chip iBook cannot get the new Flash and thus will not play a ton of stuff as of the last week. IT STILL WORKS!! Granted this laptop has a semi-broken screen and a broken key or two and it requires me to have an external harddrive for my music and photos.
My dad was mocking my giant CRT TV the last time her was in town, telling me I needed a flat panel. "But this works fine!" was my response. And I totally got the "It works fine syndrome" from my parents.
I am having not very good luck with online shopping lately. First, my attempt to buy a cheap replacemetn power cord for my netbook netted me a bogus-looking cord. Returned.
The "official replacement" cost me an arm and a leg...and somehow I made a typo on the shipping address so Purolator was trying to ship it to the wrong address. Called Purolator and they were no help. Called Future Shop, only to be told, "Yeah, just let it be returned to us, we'll refund your money." Argh.
Today, I picked up a pair of Mephistos I ordered online at Sears. I didn't worry about the size, because I have two pair of Mephistos already, I know the size. Shoes arrive, they are waaay too big, even though they are the same size as my other two pair. Argh.
