Dawn: I think a date should be in a real fancy restaurant, then champagne at a night club with a floor show, then ballroom dancing. Joyce: Unfortunately, we're not dating in a movie from the thirties.

"Faded like the lilac, he thought."

It is totally chill. You would love it. We could sit on the deck and listen to tunes while the sun sets over the junipers. I would feed you peach jam and homemade ice cream and talk about life and philosophy and music.

Why did Darth Vader cross the road? To get to the Dark Side!

We don't have any AC in our house. Usually there's only a month or two in late summer that I truly miss it. But we keep dithering on getting it installed because really the only thing that makes sense is getting central AC and heat together, and then suddenly it starts to sound really expensive.

I must obey the inscrutable exhortations of my soul—Calvin and Hobbs

I didn't have AC in northern Michigan, but I can't imagine living in NC without it. When I had a thrifty roommate we use to compromise at a temperature that was a fair bit higher than I liked. Now that I live alone I set the thermostat for the mid-70s and revel in the dry, cool air every time I walk in the front door.

I live in an oldish apartment building on the lower floor. In between my upstairs neighbor's AC and the shade from the surrounding trees my power bill is not that bad, considering my preferred temps.

We won’t stop until everyone is gay.

Liese, do you have a preference for PO Box vs. house? And did you send me either address? Cannot find. Please resend to profile addy.

'we all walk this earth feeling we are frauds. The trick is to be grateful and hope the caper doesn't end any time soon"

I yearn for the dry heat of Tucson. I was pretty comfortable at 105F and <5% humidity.

A dress should be tight enough to show you're a woman but loose enough to flee from zombies. — Ginger

I am at school.

I still feel like shit.

an overblown libretto and a sumptuous score/ could never contain the contradictions I adore

I can't sleep with the noisy AC on in my room, although I am starting to suspect I am going to have to learn how soon. Because last night was not pleasant.

Today is my first day interning/apprenticing at the vintage store! I am very excited, and dithering over which dress to wear. Stripey sleeveless dress with tiny buttons down the front and robin's-egg trim, or short-sleeved shirtdress in a seafoam floral with a rolled collar?

And then Ortus came and said "It's Ortin' time" and they all Orted off into the sunset

I needed my AC this weekend, but my neighbor with the special AC-install screwdriver dealie was (wisely) vacationing upstate instead of sweltering in Brooklyn with the rest of us. So we just cranked up all the fans and windows and waited it out. When there's a breeze, my apartment stays pretty cool even in high 80s/low 90s weather. But when it's hot and STILL, there's only so much the ceiling fans can do on their own.

Even more than the AC in my room for my own comfort, I want the AC in the kids' room so that I can go back to putting Aeryn in a sleepsack. The only reason she didn't sleep through the night last night is she rolled over and got one of her legs caught in the crib bars. (Crib bumpers, we need them.) So I was up at 3:45 with her and then couldn't get back to sleep myself because it was so frelling humid.
