I should have assumed that my high school would have spawn a lot of sports folk. One of whom was part of a major doping scandal. Yeah, that sounds about right.

I watched the Jeopardy last night and we watched the PBS special ahead of time, too. One thing we noticed it that Watson did well on the $200 questions but struggled more on the high-money questions. (Notice he went down the board by $ amount, not closing out categories like people tend to do.) One thing that fascinated me is Watson sucked at the "which decades" questions - which were really fact-based, and should have been easier for him than, for example, funny APBs for literary characters. Wonder where the glitch was there.
Also, Alex Trebek is getting old.
Famous persons from my high school -- a couple of semi-famous athletes, and a HUD secretary for less than a year.
My colleges have many more famous people. You can put together quite a list based on UNC basketball alone. And a president (James K. Polk from UNC).
Some famous alumni generate less pride (Newt Gingrich from Tulane).
Hey hivemind - what should one look for when buying quinoa? I had it last weekend and want to start making it more often but haven't the slightest idea how to buy it. Also what are your favorite quinoa recipes? I had it with pesto sauce tossed with asparagus and grape tomatoes.
My dad went to HS with and played football with Terry Bradshaw.
Notable alumni from my high school:
*Carolyn King - one of the first girls to play Little League Baseball; she was the centerpiece of a landmark lawsuit in 1973 that led to Little League dropping its boys-only policy.
*Shara Worden (née Wright) - professional performing and recording artist. Lead singer for My Brightest Diamond and also steps in and performs with The Decemberists.
I forgot to mention upthread that Chris Isaak worked for me briefly at uni. I didn't remember him at all until my ex-husband (a major fan) reminded me. I ran the student security unit for the basketball/concert arena and he was on staff.
Aims - Kat's a quinoa fan if I remember correctly. So are we, but I'm betting Kat's got more experience. We don't like the red quinoa as much as we're supposed to, for example. But I'll eat yellow(?) quinoa plain, with pesto and fish, veggies, or just about anything. We buy it bulk from the co-op, and wash it really well to get the outer coating off. Then just cook it (I think 1 cup to 2 cups water), with a little butter thrown in at the last minute. NOM.
In re: quinoa. I am using it in everything I used to use rice for.
Notably, tossing it into the rice cooker with a nice chicken broth (lots of sage and pepper). The resulting side dish went really well with everything I served it with, especially a bean stew.
wash it really well to get the outer coating off.
This is the key to quinoa success.
I don't think anyone famous went to my high school. College was UW-Madison, so I imagine a lot of famous people went there. My fave is Arnold Schwarzenegger - he and I both have business degrees from UW-Madison.
