One of my grandmothers always had Chiclets, which I now can't think about without thinking about Cindy's "it was square and it looked like a tooth" story.

Kitkats in the purse.
My grandmother had nonpariels in her room. I was such a brat--I would go into her room and pretend to smell them, so she would give me some. ::rolls eyes::
My mother still has the covered glass dish for hard candies, but nothing in it.
I ran this morning, and then went climbing, and out to lunch, and I have done nothing else all day other than nap and read.
My grandmother did not keep candy in the house, but we did get what she called a "chocolate covered" (Eskimo pies) for dessert.
My great-aunt lived to be 100, but I never met her, so unsure on her candy preferences.
My grandmother was all about the Milo and the harddo bread. And ceramic dogs.
I remember my great aunt Mamie arriveing from St. Pierre with boxes of French Pastries. Eclairs, meringues, cream puffs. They tasted odd to me because they had fresh cream and bittersweet chccolate. I was such a porcessed food child.
My great aunt bought my grandma Cherry Herring on her visit.
My grandma had those round tins of hard candy in her purse. I remember they were fruity and came in cute shapes.
my grandmother on my father's side always had peppermints and butterscotch candies. Plus she made pecan sandies. My mom's mom was the queen of junk food -- sugar ceral fro breakfast , sometimes cake for breakfast. She even owned a drive in for awhile. of course -- we also ate tons of shrimp that we caught there too.
So looks like I'm going to be flying to B'ham to sit for the nephews so brother and SIL can attend a wedding in Florida in April. Me as sole caretaker for 4 or 5 days. Probably be exhausting, but fun.
Also, SIL isn't holding a grudge over my brother appointing me 50% beneficiary on his life insurance. Which I found out from my mother. My brother and SIL have some ... differences over handling money. And he knows I'm even more conservative than him. When mom told me, I started laughing. "Because he knows what I'd do: get a lawyer, set up a conservatively invested trust with a monthly allowance that kept the bulk of the principle to pay for college and completely divest myself of any role in it. And no, I've not given this any thought before you told me that."
Typical brother communication. I find out the juicy stuff from a 3rd party.
