Kaylee: So how many fell madly in love with you and wanted to take you away from all this? Inara: Just the one. I think I'm slipping.

Sir, it's not an offence to let your cat eat your bacon. Okay? And we don't arrest cats, I'm very sorry.

I never fail to be offended by the term breeders. Maybe because I can't work out if it's supposed to include me.

I used to be somewhat offended by the term. Then I gave my sperm to a lesbian so she could breed....

Hmmm... I just haven't heard the term much at all in recent years, and no one's called me a breeder in 10 or 15 years.

"We're all stories, in the end. Just make it a good one, eh?"

So, uh, the girl is a cliche on the other side too?

She'll be so pleased!

Compassionately intolerant

"Wither thou goest, I will go."

I absolutely love that quote.

It's right up there with, "As Willow goes, so goes my nation."

And, I'm not even kidding.

"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

The last place I lived in SF was on Church street, a block or two south of Market. What neighborhood is that?

Sort of on the seam between The Castro and the Mission.

Yeah, you don't really hear the term "breeders" anymore. Maybe because there are so many more gay couples who are having children than there used to be?

Indeed, as tommy notes, many of the parents in Noe Valley would be gay. But it is a neighborhood notorious for its density of strollers on the sidewalk.

brillig

I hear/see the term "breeders" more often, but then I look at more childfree sites than some of you may.

New map of San Francisco's sub-neighborhoods. I'd object to our placement in the tiny sliver designated as UCSF Medical, but that's exactly where JZ works.

I see the "Tendernob" is becoming official. Yay? I object to Union Square being a "neighborhood." If it can't bear to admit it's in the Tenderloin, it should just be part of FiDi.

In short, I prefer the maps in the book Scola gave me.

I’d be lying if I didn’t say that I miss them all tonight…

I object to Union Square being a "neighborhood." If it can't bear to admit it's in the Tenderloin, it should just be part of FiDi.

But it has its own Business District appellation! Complete with people in jaunty jackets to help the tourists and the terminally lost!

an overblown libretto and a sumptuous score/ could never contain the contradictions I adore

Timelies, all!

I spent yesterday with an out-of-nowhere case of the spins, which seems to have gone as quickly as it came. I'm celebrating my newfound verticality by... sitting up in bed, sewing.

Well, as the Tenderblog likes to say about realtor and business maps, "I’m surprised that they don’t have four neighborhoods for the entire Northeast section of the city: Nob Hill, Russian Hill, Pacific Heights, and the Marina."

"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

Cool article on Wayne Koniuk a prosthetic limb specialist here in SF. He was the guy who fitted my ex-GF with her new leg, so I heard lots of stories about him. His specialty puts him at this curious intersection of medicine, therapy and sculpture.
