Zoe: Don't think it's a good spot, sir. She still has the advantage over us. Mal: Everyone always does. That's what makes us special.

"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

Oooh. That archive is amazing, David.

Right? Please note how I failed to hyperbolize.

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

I will say, this summer I forced myself to like zucchini more, and have somewhat gotten over my eggplant aversion, so I'll eat it now, but ratatouille is still way down on the list of Foods I Like.

Sir, it's not an offence to let your cat eat your bacon. Okay? And we don't arrest cats, I'm very sorry.

26 incredibly bizarre aircraft that actually flew

I had seen most of these before.

information libertarian

Hec, have you ever considered becoming a librarian/archivist? There are enough quirky collections of things - as you can demonstrated tonight - that I am sure there is one out there with your name on it. You have the right magpie mind for it, for sure.

I'll bet the lifeguards are wondering about my homelife. In the last two weeks, I've sported bruises on my left hip and shoulder, now have a spectacular scrape on my shin and a lesser large bruise under it, a faint bruise on my right butt (I can feel the knot underneath) and a REALLY AWESOME bruise on my elbow spreading down my forearm. And now, a bandaged finger. I'd report me.

The artist formerly associated with cupcakes.

Oooh, have you ever heard the song "Dodge Veg-o-matic" by Jonathan Richman?

Nope! Sounds like something I need to hear, tho'.

Dad and I go between blank, crying, and inappropriate humor. So, about what you would expect from us, probably.

Tomorrow we go to the funeral home to arrange things. Mom's final wishes, which she randomly told Dad a few months ago? No ceremony or funeral; she wants to be cremated, and have us sneak her ashes into the flowerbeds around the Haunted Mansion at Disneyland. No, she wasn't kidding.

The status is NOT quo.

Oh Jilli. That's wonderful and weird and perfect. And I'm so sorry.

this mess was yours / now your mess is mine

We took Chloe the dalmatian to the vet tonight because she had been losing a *lot* weight despite eating all her food (which we had been increasing because she was hungry). She had also stopped drinking water about a month ago, but we soaked her dry food and she got plenty that way.

Anyway, we decided it was time, and had her put to sleep.

It was no one thing -- there wasn't renal failure, or a tumor, or anything, but just an aggregate of her gradual decline.

I know it was the best thing -- I would never want her to suffer -- but oh my god, I feel so guilty right now. HUGELY.

And I couldn't be in the room for the procedure. I went in, and was petting her, and when the doctor got the syringe out, I bolted. I couldn't watch. I'm so glad Tim was able to stay.

She was old, and declining quickly. It was time. But -- wow.
