Congrats on the progress, Kathy!

Contemplating going to the pool.

Thanks for all the support, you guys! You have no idea how good it makes me feel. (I can't wait until my mom calls me here at work later this afternoon, which she said she'd do. I bet I make her cry with my news! [Um, that's in-a-good-way cry])

Lunch today is turkey breast with gravy, which came with a great compliment on how I'm looking by the cafeteria guy, who happens to be my neighbor at home--he lives on the first floor of my apartment building.

I picked up the menu for the rest of the week, and they've got really tasty-sounding protein for each day. Yay! Southwest chicken tomorrow, mahi mahi on Wed., Jambalaya on Thurs., and either meatloaf or curry chicken on Friday. I'm using the cafeteria for lunch just so I can get some variety in my meals, but I am cooking for myself for dinner, unless I have leftovers from lunch, which I will today. I was smart and brought a ziploc bag with me today, which I filled up with the remaining three slices of turkey and put it in the cup of ice I got with lunch.

Contemplating going to the pool.

I was going to go after work today, but with the weather being what it is, and sleet predicted for tonight, I'm going to head home instead. I'll get over there tomorrow, Wednesday, and Friday, so that'll be my three times this week. Thursday night, I'm heading down to Skokie for a surgery support group meeting, and this weekend I've got my first meetings for my Library Management class this semester, so unless I get into the pool at 6:00 am (which ain't gonna happen!), swimming is out this weekend.

"There are few hours in life more agreeable than the hour dedicated to the ceremony known as afternoon tea."

Yay, Kathy! That's wonderful progress!

this mess was yours / now your mess is mine

Kathy, you are totally inspiring me to be more diligent about getting enough protein. Seriously. I feel better when I eat more protein, but I don't always get it, because sometimes it's just easier to make pasta for dinner.

"It didn't taste good. It tasted soooo horrible. It tasted like....a vodka martini." - Matilda

Yay, Kathy!

From a NY Times article about an online game Jared Loughner was briefly involved with:

It is not uncommon for people who are part of any online community to form bonds and casual relationships with the people they interact with on the Web.

In other news: It is not uncommon for basketball players to be tall. Also, fire is hot. Ice is cold.

Sir, it's not an offence to let your cat eat your bacon. Okay? And we don't arrest cats, I'm very sorry.

It is not uncommon for people to say "Duh!" upon reading something obvious.

Stock up on Greek yogurt! It's a great way to get some more protein in without filling you up too much. Look at the labels, though--some brands have more protein than others.

ETA: My dietician wants me to have 64 grams of protein a day, which I can't do with the three meals alone, so I'm supplementing with a protein shake at night, which gives me about 33 grams.

and so you know Kathy, here is how your journey is helping me.

I'm on a new drug for diabetes - Victoza. Part of what it does is slow my digestion down. This is good, because i can't eat like I used to eat. That sounds good, but it also weirds me out. I have always been able to eat whatever when ever. I can't do that anymore. You have adjusted to a new way of eating -- and that I find inspiring.
