We won’t stop until everyone is gay.

A friend of mine posted this link on FB: [link] Fascinating and horrifying chronological list of violent incidents and/or rhetoric related to violent insurrection since mid-2008.

Sometimes I think I might just move up to Vermont, open a bookstore or a vegan restaurant. Adam Schlesinger, z''l

Sigh. CNN's religion blog posted something about Giffords being Jewish. The second comment on the post is someone who wants to make it very clear that, since her father was Jewish but her mother was not, she's not REALLY a Jew. Really, people? This is what we're arguing about today? [link]

And two of the first five comments on the USA Today article are the same thing. (One of them exactly the same.) [link]

Sir, it's not an offence to let your cat eat your bacon. Okay? And we don't arrest cats, I'm very sorry.

That is very depressing.

"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

Yikes!

A male model who had recently been a contestant on a Portuguese reality TV show was taken into police custody hours after his companion, a celebrity Portuguese television journalist, was found castrated and bludgeoned to death in a New York City hotel.

Occasionally I’m callous and strange

Jesse- it's likely water trapped in your ear. Squirting a little rubbing alchohol in there should help it dry, but it could also be that yr ears aren't draining properly. I've found that if the rubbing alchohol stings or hurts like crazy, that means it's time to go to the dr b/ there's probably an infection. A slight burning sensation is normal.

One of the many things about radiators I adore? How I get blissed out cats lying on them, stoned by the warmth. Really happy cats.

My cats are the same way with my floor heating vents. I put plastic returns over the tops so the air would blow away from the walls (and the desk/bookshelves i placed directly above heater vents...oops) so as soon as they hear the heat kicking in both cats run to flop in front of one of those two vents. Sometimes they fight over who gets best seating in front of the vent under my desk, for it is close to my feet. And then when the heat stops the younger cat tries to beat the vent into producing more heat, but the older one just stays flopped in front, nice and warm, waiting for the next blast of hot air. it is soothing and pleasant to watch them enjoy the heat.

Sullivan on the assertion that both the extreme Right and extreme Left use violent rhetoric:

On Extreme Right And Left"

Here he quotes George Packer:

For the past two years, many conservative leaders, activists, and media figures have made a habit of trying to delegitimize their political opponents. Not just arguing against their opponents, but doing everything possible to turn them into enemies of the country and cast them out beyond the pale. Instead of “soft on defense,” one routinely hears the words “treason” and “traitor.” The President isn't a big-government liberal—he's a socialist who wants to impose tyranny. He's also, according to a minority of Republicans, including elected officials, an impostor. Even the reading of the Constitution on the first day of the 112th Congress was conceived as an assault on the legitimacy of the Democratic Administration and Congress.

This relentlessly hostile rhetoric has become standard issue on the right. (On the left it appears in anonymous comment threads, not congressional speeches and national T.V. programs.)

this mess was yours / now your mess is mine

Okay, follow-up on my "What's the deal with bacon?" misunderstanding of last night. The person who asked that did so because she was at a party where people kept talking about bacon (within a conversation about all kinds of food), and she thought "bacon" was maybe code for some kinky sex act or something.

And I am not even kidding.

I feel so much better about my misunderstanding of her question.

Bacon is bacon, yo. And sometimes god.
