I can only say that Commander's Palace was one of the top 5 dining experiences of my life. And not insanely priced (according to DC standards, anyway)

When I walked up to the host stand, he smiled and said "Miss Johnson? Welcome to Commander's Palace" I don't know if I was the only reservation at the time or what, but it really made me feel special that I didn't have to open my mouth and I was welcomed. The host led me to a gorgeous table right next to the patio, but indoors, so very comfortable. We went through the kitchen, which was neat (literally and figuratively, it was spotless) I sat down and ordered my standard drink -- Grey Goose Gimlet, straight up. It arrived quickly, along with some of the best garlic bread I've ever eaten. The staff was incredibly attentive and professional. I discussed the menu with my server, she had some good suggestions. I ended up with tasso ham wrapped shrimp with five pepper jelly and Crystal hot sauce buerre blanc and the shrimp "haute couture", which was shrimp sauteed in brown butter with andouille scented rice, and corn and okra maque choux. the shrimp were perfectly cooked, the corn fresh, crisp and sweet. One of the owners stopped by to say hello, we chatted for a bit. I ordered coffee, I couldn't fathom dessert. I ate two orders of garlic bread, I just didn't have room for dessert. When I asked for the check, my server told me that the owner had asked that I be given a cocktail on the house. I opted for the house specialty, the name I can't remember, but it was dark rum, fresh lime juice, angostura bitters, simple syrup and a "secret ingredient". Marvelous.

And no, I don't care that the GL trailer looks a little jokey. I still think they got the point.
