Of course, their mom and everybody else called them Mary Catherine (MaryCat), Mary Elizabeth (MaryLiz), Mary Rose, Mary Margaret, etc. It was like polysyllabic names, the first two of which were Mary.
"Compound" names, also a very Southern thing! My cousins include Patsy Ruth, Sara Caroline, and Mary Louis (and her daughter Mary Brooke). In my head it's all one name, Patsyruth, Saracayrlin, Merrlewis.
Got the job, my Bitches!!!!
A world of YAY, Erin!
Dudes, I was invited to a special TED party in New York.
You're such a badass, Shir!
Congrats, Erin!!
My mom is a Patsy Ruth!!
Shir IS a bad-ass! I'm so proud of you.
Congrats, Erin! I am so thrilled for you!
My mom is a Patsy Ruth!!
I can't believe there are two! How cool!
A TED invite is very cool.
Went on a walk yesterday, went on a walk today. Hope I can keep this up. Probably walked about 2.5 mi again, but some uphill this time. And went on some streets I never checked out even when I was growing up here. Found a high pressure gas line, which is what blew up on San Bruno. Only I hope this one, y'know, doesn't blow up.
Shir, it is good to see cool things happening for you.
Erin, that's FABulous news! Yay job! And a pretty great job, too!
Oh yeah, the southern double-name is ubiquitous. The famous Jim Bob Walton, Eddie Ray, and his son Eddie Ray Junior, Carol Ann, Jane Carol. I knew three Jane Carols growing up. And three Ann Maries. Caroline was always "Carralin". Then there's my cousin Effie June. And Zen's right, they're all run together in speech so they sound like one word.
