I said I'm sorry. I've made mistakes, but fear was never one of them.

Spike's Bitches 46: Don't I get a cookie?

[NAFDA] Spike-centric discussion. Lusty, lewd (only occasionally crude), risqué (and frisqué), bawdy (Oh, lawdy!), flirty ('cuz we're purty), raunchy talk inside. Caveat lector.

Our wings are not tired

Staying in a hotel can be a very good thing. I adopted that policy for trips to San Diego a few years ago and it has made time with my family a bit more bearable.

omnis, pursue. That's an order from a shy woman who can use M-16. - Shir

If things get too ridiculous, I can always go stay with my brother.
But what if the white devil is there?!?!

(I am avoiding work and feeling a bit crappy about myself and my ability to do a PhD, and it's a good thing I have a meeting with my supervisor today
Don't be down on yourself. PhD is not easy. If it was, everyone would do it. It sounds like you have a great supervisor. If he isn't worried, then you shouldn't be. It's just a matter of getting into a rhythm. And it will take a bit. I'm seeing the first year MFA grad students going through that right now. You have a whole new routine to learn, new people to meet, new surroundings, new house, new studies. That's a lot of new. Once you get used to it all, no worries, you'll be great!

"And that's why God Almighty gave us fire insurance and the public defender".

Go, Hil!

Barb, I don't remember saying it, but you're a star. I love how you handle this.

P-C - man, best of luck. I have no other words, I'm sorry.

I am secretly enjoying the English lessons

This actually caught me by surprise. I thought I knew how to arrange these continuous-tense with present/future (or, continuous-tense/non-continuous-tense). I've been doing it for years (well, since the... 8th grade, when it was taught?), in that way, and nobody told me anything about it until now.

I was shocked, SHOCKED, let me tell you. I really thought it didn't matter where you put the continuous-tense in sentences like this. I think it'll take me a while to shake off that habit: I can only get the strange feeling of "check your English grammar!", but can't really put my finger on where and what to check, which make me very self conscious, when I'm not sure what I should be conscious about.

(btw, after getting back emails from professors with mistakes and typos of their own, I feel a lot better about my English and no longer have the need to catch someone to proofread my English emails to them).

Also, THAT.

oooo, so glad I didn't see your e-mails in time for proof reading. Not sure I would have caught that. English. Not so good at it. I'm better then Text-lish, but not that good.

Well, it's after midnight. Cute gal got off work about 11:30. I'm guessing no phone call :/

I wish I could just go somewhere to get flensed but none of the whaling ships near me take Medicare.

Pub trivia went well tonight. Our team didn't win win, but got a voucher for $21 worth of bar tab. Since I live very far away from that bar and need to borrow a car to get there, that voucher won't do me any good. However, I was happy I was able to give the right answers for about 8 questions. Including who performed "Pass the Dutchie" I was no help in questions about about things like Dancing With the Stars hosts and such.

omnis, I hope she gives less ambiguous signals soon. I hate trying to guess what people are feeling like or up to.

Yeah, not sure whether to kick it up a gear, or just say cest la vie. I'm not good at the pursuing thing. If ya wanna play hard to get, I'm not going to get you.

"We're all stories, in the end. Just make it a good one, eh?"

omnis, thank you for the advice. It is very good advice that I will try to remember. You're right - it's challenging stuff and I should be less hard on myself. ION, much girl-showing-fewer-mixed-signals~ma to you.

Shir, I am sorry if I've caused you self-consciousness with regards to English tenses. That's what you get for asking a former English teacher to proof-read your e-mails, though! And please remember - in Hebrew I am still stuck on 'ani lomedet' and can only recognise about five letters. (I must get a teacher soon.) Your English is fantastic.

"And that's why God Almighty gave us fire insurance and the public defender".

omnis, I'm not so sure it's about playing hard to get - it's about making her feeling comfortable enough to contact you, IMHO. Then again, what do I know about this shit.

Seska, you're a lying lair who lies. First, because for "ani lomedet" you need more than five letter (Alef, Nun, Yud, Lamed, Vav, Mem, Dalet, Tav. That's eight!). And second, because you want me to be self conscious about my mistakes in order to fix them. Now that's why I ask a former English teacher to proofread my emails. So there.

And then Ortus came and said "It's Ortin' time" and they all Orted off into the sunset

Actually I think commercials use some of the most innovative and effective cinematic and editing and CGI out there, and I like those elements.

It's been true for a long time that commercials are (ironically) at the cutting edge of experimental filmmaking technique. Fitting the "your life is an empty meaningless shell without our product" message into a 30-second narrative is harder than it looks, which is why so many of them make me want to spork my eyes out.

"We're all stories, in the end. Just make it a good one, eh?"

Supervisor is going to 'try' to persuade the university that I need four years (rather than the standard three) to complete my PhD. I may have to go down to the research administrators' office and hit them repeatedly with a copy of the Disability Discrimination Act. On the bright side, supervisor's happy with the work I'm doing. On the less bright side, our silly little nation's silly little Chancellor of the Exchequer has just announced his 'spending review' and it has left an entire country sobbing into their lunches, so that's not happy-making.

First, because for "ani lomedet" you need more than five letter (Alef, Nun, Yud, Lamed, Vav, Mem, Dalet, Tav. That's eight!)

I didn't say I could write it in Hebrew. I can't!

Now that's why I ask a former English teacher to proofread my emails.

I'm glad my pedantic perfectionism is useful to someone.
