Like any of that's enough to fight the Dark Master. Bator.

Spike's Bitches 46: Don't I get a cookie?

[NAFDA] Spike-centric discussion. Lusty, lewd (only occasionally crude), risqué (and frisqué), bawdy (Oh, lawdy!), flirty ('cuz we're purty), raunchy talk inside. Caveat lector.

"Faded like the lilac, he thought."

Yay, Ouise!

I thought Kim was Korean!

Yes, he is. But I'm still mildly miffed because of the crossed cultural lines. The character DDK plays is probably Chinese. The character GP plays is probably native Hawaiian. In the original, they were both played by people from Hawaii who were of the right ethnicity. In the reboot, they made them related, which, okay, I'm Japanese and have native Hawaiian cousins.

And then, Grace Park's character (who was originally native Hawaiian, but is probably at least some Chinese if she's supposed to be related to DDK's character) referenced folding a thousand cranes for her cousin. My reaction was that the cousin had better be supposed to be Japanese, because the thousand cranes thing is specifically Japanese, not generic Asian. And definitely not Chinese/Hawaiian as played by a mainlander/Canadian of Korean ethnic heritage. So the family line must be (for values of must that assume the showrunners are thinking anything other than "hey, Asians!") Chinese (Chin Ho) cousin by marriage to native Hawaiian (Kalakaua) who is also cousin by marriage to Japanese (unnamed cousin who folded cranes).

Hee. That got convoluted. Don't get me wrong. I am super super happy at having Asian actors, particularly these high profile Asian actors, on my screen. And the fact that they're DDK & GP ups the likelihood that the show will be in any way about them. So I'm good.

I just think it's a little sad if the show doesn't utilize local Hawaiian actors. Who will speak pidgin properly.

But hey, malasadas! Pretty scenery! DDK being badass! Explosions! Gratuitous girlfights!

"Faded like the lilac, he thought."

I recognize that my objections are probably along the lines of ita's wrong music objections in that no one else cares, but who am I, if not the person who comments on Asian casting?

"Cry havoc and let slip the boobs of war!" -- Miracleman

I'm totally with you, Liese. The writers need to be more culturally aware.

Bob's learned to live with tragedy, but he knows that this tragedy is one that won't ever leave him or get better.

Oh dear gawd, PLEASE tell me I put the vibrator in the nightstand this morning and she didn't find it wrapped up in the sheets. I think I did. I'm sure I did. Right? I put that evil looking thing in the nightstand, not her, right? RIGHT?!?!?!?

Ha! Once some friends were staying with me (or were just visiting, I forget which trip now) and their very awesome daughter wanted to see my cats. In my room. I got to the bed just ahead and discretely slid the vibrator from kinda maybe under half a sheet to solidly under a pillow which I then lounged on.

Crisis averted.

'm trying to take delurk month as inspiration and posting more regularly. It probably won't work.

YAY! Hi Ouise!

Liese, you are totally right. Though since I'm not watching it, YOU are the one making me want malasadas!

And then Ortus came and said "It's Ortin' time" and they all Orted off into the sunset

assume the showrunners are thinking anything other than "hey, Asians!"

I haven't seen the show yet, but I worry that this assumption may be the problem.

You should know I'm a big deal in the Resistance.

One time I cleaned the apartment thoroughly before my dad came over but the copy of "Bound Babes" had been sitting on the toilet for so long I'd kind of forgotten it was there. He left a bit abruptly after using the bathroom.

"Faded like the lilac, he thought."

Nom, malasadas.

And yeah. Buffistas need to incorporate and contract ourselves out to big Hollywood companies, where we can be experts on everything and keep them from making themselves look like asses.

If you find the time, could you pop over into Movies and the current discussion about race and casting? I'd welcome your insights.
