Now, I can hold a note for a long time...actually I can hold a note forever. But eventually that's just noise. It's the change we're listening for. The note coming after, and the one after that. That's what makes it music.

Spike's Bitches 46: Don't I get a cookie?

[NAFDA] Spike-centric discussion. Lusty, lewd (only occasionally crude), risqué (and frisqué), bawdy (Oh, lawdy!), flirty ('cuz we're purty), raunchy talk inside. Caveat lector.

You should know I'm a big deal in the Resistance.

Is it normal for a dog to be at the groomer's for 4 hours?

"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

The guy who did my tat had L-O-V-E and H-A-TE tattooed on his fingers. Which scared me for the first two minutes; afterward I figured it was his idea of a joke.

It's a reference to Robert Mitchum's evil preacher character in Night of the Hunter.

omnis, pursue. That's an order from a shy woman who can use M-16. - Shir

Be absolutely sure you know what any kanji, or other Japanese or Chinese characters, mean (and any possible other interpretations - see "ass antlers") before you have them permanently affixed to your body.
I seem to recall a story about a Firefly fan getting the Serenity kanji tat. Upon showing it off, folks pointed out it was backwards. So, make sure you know the orientation of the symbol, and if you are looking at it in a mirror, say because it's on your back or something, make sure you realize that when they show you the transfer before they start inking you.

The first one is bullshit. I fall asleep in front of the TV with the overhead light on faster than greased lighting.

Always Anti-fascist!

Not "Cape Fear," Hec? Well, the Mitchum part was right.

harking back upthread- according to antipolygraph.org, the Mythbusters did not do the lie detector trick correctly.

If you're going through hell/keep on going/don't slow down/keep your fear from showing/you might be gone/'fore the devil even knows you're there

Don't see why not, Laga. Some dogs take a long time. But more likely, it's a scheduling thing - they can handle a lot more dogs if they have them dropped off and picked up with a wide window rather than having the dogs come and leave one-by-one.

cool brenda, my sister dropped Daisy off and I'm the pick-up.

(Can you tell I've never used a groomer before?)

"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

No, Ma'am.

The new API scores are out. Grattan Elementary - the closet one to our house - has gone up from a very good 822 (800 being the benchmark) to 873. Which is quite good for SF.

Back when Emmett was assigned there its score was 680, which was unacceptable to his mom and why he went to Albany schools.

Unfortunately, the higher scores mean it'll be harder to get Matilda in.

Fortunately, SF is changing its selection process (again) and giving greater weight to local residents in the process.

Anyway, that's where we're aiming to place Matilda next fall.

So we might (cross fingers) be getting two breaks. First, the increased local weighting, and second, we're just making it in as a September birth before they change the eligibility date which has been passed into law. (They're moving the date back one month, every year until it has gone from December to September. So it's actually a three year window we're hitting.)

We need some luck here!

Trust my rage

I think cholo depends on the context. It's not a word I use but my clients often use it. The same for wetback and beaner, although I think those are more exclusively negative. I think cholo might be like queer.

I’d be lying if I didn’t say that I miss them all tonight…

I know several people (Derby girls, Cash) with those as well as mustaches tattooed on their fingers.

I have a visceral and irrational dislike of the ironic mustache in general, and this iteration in particular.

Argh, me too. Still, I know a fair amount of women with the mustache finger tat. Sigh.
