That's what we have, smonster, and it works great.

Spike's Bitches 46: Don't I get a cookie?
[NAFDA] Spike-centric discussion. Lusty, lewd (only occasionally crude), risqué (and frisqué), bawdy (Oh, lawdy!), flirty ('cuz we're purty), raunchy talk inside. Caveat lector.
I know it`s NOT DONE these days because of bedbugs and whatnot, but I bought my mattress at a thrift shop. $100 and I went in on 50% day, so fifty bucks for a king sized mattress in fabulous condition.
Good on ya Liese.
I remember an Oprah episode years ago about ridic mattress prices and nefarious industry practices. Such as, changing model names within a region to ensure that consumers cannot comparison shop...300-400% mark-ups and fake sales.
It strikes me that there are several products on the market that are priced so high, simply because they can be!
The mattress I sleep on is at _least_ 14 years old (it belonged to an ex) and I have no interest in replacing it. As aforementioned, the most comfortable bed I've EVER slept on.
I bought my current mattress, new, in 2000, after I moved out of my boyfriend's apartment. It's getting a little saggy in the middle, but so am I. I'm not willing to pay money for a new one yet.
Mine was over 20 years old, and was sagging a bit so I left it in NC. Kind of regretting that now. I'm actually considering just getting a foam topper and putting it on the floor, see how that does.
Liese, were it not for bedbugs, I'd be all over that. If I knew anyone selling a bed, I'd buy it.
eta found a queen set for $398. Sold!
got my current mattress via overstock.com - a generic memory foam and i love it. Tho it did stink the first cuple days.
I could probably do an air mattress, but it would need to be on a frame. This body doesn't do things that involve being on floor level if I can help it.
Uh oh. Nico (my older, food-seeking cat) got out, and in an attempt at feline masculinity chased one of the neighbor's cats back to her yard. After calling for him and searching for a good 10 minutes, i found him next door, under her truck, not 5 feet from a HUGE bowl of cat food (her dozen+ cats live outdoors and all eat from the same bowl, apparently.)
My fingers are crossed that he did not discover the seemingly unlimited bowl of noms outside, or he'll be hoarking all night and i'll be struggling to contain him inside indefinitely :(

You can put a sheet of plywood in the frame under the mattress for support. That's my current set-up, though I have a regular mattress, not an air mattress. I got rid of my box spring years ago. My antique bed is high enough off the floor that a box spring made me have to literally "climb" into bed.
I slept on an air mattress on top of box springs with a 4" memory foam topper. It was very comfy and cheap. right now I'm back to a futon but with the memory foam on top of it.
