Hi guys!
Summer vacation approaches again, and as tends to happen that means I'll have time to keep up in Bitches again. At least for a while. A pretty short while, this time around actually, because like smonster, I too am moving in the near future, though not, sadly, to NOLA. My wife and I are instead moving to Nashville, which is pretty awesome for itself, though it limits our summer to just a tad more than a month (June 24th - August 1st). Still, better than people with non-teaching jobs get, so here's to summer vacation. Are there Buffistas in Nashville? Wife Meg is skeptical about the whole "internet people" phenomenon, but I believe she will be willing to meet anybody in a new city and attempt to make friends. Also, we will be buying a house! Also, we will be having a baby in December!
Those are my announcements.
I know that as always tends to happen I've missed all manner of important things, despite reading the last 300 posts to try to get a general sense. I hope you'll all forgive me for that. Unfortunately, I am sometimes a fickle Bitch - Literary, Movies, and Buffistechnology are all I can generally keep up with during the school year. Here are things I can say based on the last 300 posts:
1) I think that it's nice to give gifts with a special, personal meaning if you can come up with one, but I also find that many people really like receiving flowers. In fact, I was always on the "flowers seem so generic" train, and then I received some flowers and thought it was awesome. It really is the thought that counts, sometimes. Now, I think I'd be less impressed getting flowers in a situation that everybody receives flowers (in the hospital, or at the end of a play I directed, or whatever), but when no gift is expected, flowers are downright awesome.
2) I feel your moving pain, smonster. I started taking down wall shelves yesterday. Now I have to spackle the gaping holes they left behind. My real boxes arrive Monday and then the real packing pain will begin.
3) Congratulations, Raq!
4) I'm very sorry, Maria.
5) Barb, it's this kind of thing that makes me very fearful about the whole "home-ownership" thing I will be entering. I was actually just reading about this little guy, to put next to my water-heater in the basement. Might be worth investigating to avoid this in the future: [link] Plus, so cute!
