The ducks are chomping today, not nibbling, I see.

Spike's Bitches 46: Don't I get a cookie?
[NAFDA] Spike-centric discussion. Lusty, lewd (only occasionally crude), risqué (and frisqué), bawdy (Oh, lawdy!), flirty ('cuz we're purty), raunchy talk inside. Caveat lector.
So I scrubbed the cat box.
I buy a new cat box every few weeks. Worth it. Cleaning litter doesn't bother me; scrubbing a cat box does. Besides, I can't do it outside in winter (no hose, plus, wimp) and I won't do it in the bathtub.
I clean the boxes out quite a bit in the summer with the hose and natural cleaner, and let them dry in the sun. The winter? NSM. It's getting nicer, though, so the cat boxes will get their spring cleaning in a week or so.
I cleaned one out in the bathtub once; never again. I used to use the utility sink in the basement of my apartment building, but we don't have one at the house, so I just scrape the bottom well, and use baking soda on the bottom in the winter.
P-C, have you seen this?.
No, but every word of that rings true. It would probably be futile to send that to my mom, huh.
use baking soda on the bottom in the winter.
That helps with the smell?
Absorbency and smell. I keep a box by the pan upstairs and sprinkle on the bottom and then add litter. If the cats lay an egregious poop-egg and don't cover it (BAD KITTY) I cover it in the soda. It cuts the smell immediately.
I clean the box out once a week, on trash day.
It would probably be futile to send that to my mom, huh.
Or email the writer! Just a thought.
Zen, have you tried liners? I gotta admit I'm cringing at how much landfill is being produced by just throwing out the cat pan instead of cleaning it.
java, I have tried liners. Leo digs right through them; they're unfortunately useless. To clarify I scoop once or twice a day; I don't throw the pan out every time it needs cleaning, just when it's... too much eww to deal with. One of my boys likes to see how far and wide and up he can get. (The pan's inside a big plastic storage box to contain the mess. That box, I scrub.) The pan's made of plastic and my trash company does single-stream recycling, so maybe it's getting recycled into something. I've probably more than offset it from stopping buying bottled water.
