Most people is pretty quiet right about now. Me, I see a stiff -- one I didn't have to kill myself -- I just get, the urge to, you know, do stuff. Like work out, run around, maybe get some trim if there's a willin' woman about... not that I get flush from corpses or anything. I ain't crazy.

Spike's Bitches 46: Don't I get a cookie?

[NAFDA] Spike-centric discussion. Lusty, lewd (only occasionally crude), risqué (and frisqué), bawdy (Oh, lawdy!), flirty ('cuz we're purty), raunchy talk inside. Caveat lector.

"There are few hours in life more agreeable than the hour dedicated to the ceremony known as afternoon tea."

Sail, sorry to hear about the headache problems.

One of the advantages of being the adult in the house is telling G that he can't have a cookie until after lunch, which is after his nap, and then having a couple cookies myself as soon as he falls asleep.

"Faded like the lilac, he thought."

Our local school is doing parent teacher conferences too. I just drove past and it was a madhouse over there.

Thankfully, that is yet another typical teacher thing I do not have to do.

Nana korobi, ya oki. (Fall down seven times, stand up eight.) ~Yuzuru Hanyu/Japanese proverb

I really think I need new glasses just for using the computer, and that's adding to my problems. But I'm very short on funds. I haven't even figured out my taxes yet to see if I'm getting anything back. So, squeezing that out of my budget is something I need to sit down and figure out how to do, because I suspect the right glasses would make a lot of difference.

Go, cookies!

Love is stronger than death and harder than sorrow. Those who practice it are fierce like the light of stars traveling eons to pierce the night.

I just got back from my 6-month review at work. Wow, it's been six months since the changeover, already. Usual anxieties apply - but the man said I was doing well in working with the individuals and in keeping up with necessary training, no complaints about attendance, etc. So my official goals for the coming months include making sure to use floating holidays and pto in a timely fashion so that I do not lose any, and attending a training session on a particular dietary need for one individual (needing to moderate vitamin K intake for someone taking Coumadin).

ETA: Sadly, there was no talk of performance raises, but that is hardly unexpected for a non-profit org. dependent on state health and human services funding. I'm just glad we haven't had any pay cuts.

That sounds all very positive, Andi! Too bad there's no money for a raise, though, because I'm sure you're the most deserving employee they've got.

You know what's awesome, Sail? I'm really not. I'm good. But I'm not The. Best. And I don't have to be. This outfit has managed to hire enough quality people that I can relax and depend on the whole team to take care of the individuals we serve. It sure beats hell out of those situations where I have to be the Bitch who kicks up a fuss when someone has an unexplained bruise, or when personal belongings go missing, or medications aren't being given properly, etc.

That is probably one of the niftiest things I've heard you say. That you can relax. I hope they keep the same management for a long, long time.

"We're all stories, in the end. Just make it a good one, eh?"

That is probably one of the niftiest things I've heard you say.

It's fantastic. I'm glad you're working in such a decent environment, Andi.

Being happy with the work goes a long way toward making up for getting paid next to nothing.

Compassionately intolerant

What a weird day.

On our walk this morning, Bartleby and I were nearly run down in the crosswalk, twice. Once by a woman who stopped over the crosswalk in a minivan, forcing us to cross behind her. So, as soon as we got behind the vehicle, she backed up to within a foot of us.

The delivery truck behind her honked frantically to save us. She just gave me an insipid smile as I smacked her with a stare.

Then, an old man looked me right in the eye as I reached the middle of the crosswalk and then drove right into us. Honest to christ, what is the matter with people?

THEN, my favorite plumber was sent by my landlord to find out why my dishwasher and washing machine are leaking. He made it clear that he isn't an appliance guy and did the same basic observation tests I would have.

Ultimately, I got into a fight with the landlord because I don't want him to willynilly trash the appliances and buy new ones. Seriously, what? He has been notoriously slow in new purchases. I am super frugal. He is way more so.

Why are we fussing about this?

He thinks appliance guys' labor fees won't make it worth repairs. Is that true?

How much do new dishwasher's cost?

I just don't want to toss something into the waste stream that could be saved.
