Spike's Bitches 46: Don't I get a cookie?

[NAFDA] Spike-centric discussion. Lusty, lewd (only occasionally crude), risqué (and frisqué), bawdy (Oh, lawdy!), flirty ('cuz we're purty), raunchy talk inside. Caveat lector.

Sure, we're in the upper midwest in winter, it'll only snow really badly two days per year.

Deena, that ridiculous. I understand budget cuts, but most schools are very concerned about liability also (even w/o the whole silly "safety" issue, @@).

I can't imagine a school deciding in KC that tomorrow would be a "2-hour delay."

I mean, the state has called out the Nat'l Guard, and KC has declared a state of emergency. Courts, city halls, the airport is closed. If a school tried to open, I can't imagine anyone SHOWING UP, including teachers. It's likely many people won't be able to get out of their driveways tomorrow morning, whether it be at 7 am or 9 am.

He's fine. I wasn't as bothered until he told me they had to take him out the emergency door, which makes me think it wasn't quite as minor as they said it was.

The news tells us to expect our power to go out. I can't tell how seriously to take them, but 10k homes were without power this morning for several hours.

Sometimes I think I might just move up to Vermont, open a bookstore or a vegan restaurant. Adam Schlesinger, z''l

I got home safe. The roads are pretty icy. I really hope they're better tomorrow, but I doubt it.

The lost sheep grow teeth, forsake their lambs, and lie with the lions.

Erin! Did you see that they closed down Hwy 70 through most of Missouri?

I did, Anne. Pretty much from east KC to St. Louis. Crazy, huh?

I haven't heard about any power outages in KC, and that is all I wanted from this storm -- don't lose power!

I have gotten a bunch of grading done, and cleaned my kitchen. I hope to get the rest of the grading done tomorrow, and my bedroom and my closet cleaned!

If we are out Thursday, which seems increasingly likely, as it will be -10 for the low and 9 for the high, with decent wind chills AND I don't think the roads will be clear enough, I hope to get some laundry done.

Maybe I will make pumpkin cookies tonight. That would warm up the kitchen, and I could clean up after dinner without freezing.

I've got dinner in the oven. Brussels sprouts and garlic and chickpeas, with olive oil and lemon and oregano. It smells good.

Shir, that dismissal of your lived experience sounds incredibly frustrating. I'm sorry the men who expect your support are unwilling to even acknowledge the need for them to support your safety in return.

Daniel, I hope the sciatica is improving.

Love is stronger than death and harder than sorrow. Those who practice it are fierce like the light of stars traveling eons to pierce the night.

If they try to make tomorrow a 2 hour delay and the roads are as bad as they're expected to be, my kids are staying home anyway.

I don't blame you. And who in heck decided that 2 days was a rational number of snow days? Cleveland gets more snow per year than Minneapolis, on average, and certainly this is not an average year, for anyone. (Are you in the Snow Belt?) Also, just how much does it cost to extend the school year in summer to make up for those extra days, that schools would rather risk children's lives than do the extensions?
