I sign up for historical or architectural tours and pay in advance, so I have a reason to get out and about.
Ha! I am almost the exact opposite. I hate being pinned down by plans, especially on holiday and almost never do guided tours unless I wander in as one is about to start. My lack of planning is one of the reasons I like to travel by myself.
I'm so lazy, I can imagine spending most of my time either in the room or reading on a bench. A fine way to spend free time, but not if you've Gone Somewhere to See The Sights!
This is why my favorite vacations are beach vacations. Nothing to do but read, play in the water, eat fresh seafood, and possibly build a sand castle.
SIX DAYS AWAY.
Dear lady who spends an hour sitting on the toilet making phone calls in the morning: I cannot pee while you are on the phone with your kids' school. Does it not occur to you that the person on the phone can hear flushing, peeing, farting, whatever is happening in the bathroom? Are you just that ignorant?
I missed the memo that making/taking calls in a public bathroom (or, really, one's own bathroom) is acceptable. But based on the behavior of the women in my office building, it's commonplace.
ICK.
I've been in situations where the only semi-private place to make a call was the office bathroom. So I went to Starbucks and made the call from there instead.
I really liked being on this tour, but it did wear me out at a couple of points. But we saw a ton of stuff! And didn't have to make many decisions! I mean, part of the time they even picked what we were going to have for dinner. It was a very relaxing way to see big chunks of two countries.
Speaking of vacations, it has already been announced that we can leave at 3 on Friday for the long weekend. SWEET. I have no plans, which is just as well.
Happy Birthday, David, and a wonderful year to come!
We did not feel the quake at Perkins'. Woe! Deb told us about it when we got to her place for coffee and a bit of breakfast.

We aren't doing that anymore. We were told that it was "illegal" for hourly people to leave and not punch out, so now no one can leave early. If we do leave early, we have to take vacation, including salaried workers. So now, even though theoretically those of us on salary could leave early one day and stay late another without taking vacation, we can't on a day before a holiday.
Okay, the Queen did a walkabout and the rain stopped.
