Two good games today. It really just seemed like Ghana was everywhere and the US just couldn't get it in the goal.

Our wings are not tired.

Man, I love sports. I really, really do. I can't get over watching people win, and the sadness of watching people lose.

Ditto.

I think one of the reasons I like rooting for the US futbal team is the unity of it; it's the one time most of the Dodgers fans I know are actually rooting with me.

Now let us crush something soft and watch it fountain blood. That is a girlish thing to want to do, yes?

It really just seemed like Ghana was everywhere and the US just couldn't get it in the goal.

They were! They had the best speed/agility/ball-handling (heh)/passing and general Being Everywhere I've seen in any of the games I've seen (although that's far from all of them). And their keeper is just beast. Damn.

Also, what ita said about sports. Damn, sports, for all the @@, you make me cry in all the good ways.

Our wings are not tired.

Sports gives me a chance to be passionate and silly and biased and ridiculous and nuts and hard-headed without any real-life ramifications. It's where I can lose myself and find myself.

oh joy! Oh Rapture ! I have a brain!

I used to play , and I even coached 5 yr olds . I had forgotten how tired you are at the end of a soccer game

Well, with the five Francophone teams down, and now the US, I guess I'm going back to my old sweethearts from '98, the Netherlands.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

When I objectively think about sports, it's...well, they're the dumbest thing ever. Why do you keep hitting that tiny ball back over that net? But then you see the raw emotion of the Ghanaian team as they knock each other over in celebration, and I think--anything that lights people up like that and isn't maiming other people--is good, no? And even the sadness and desperation on the US side--it was well battled for.

Trust my rage

Joe said something to me today about "I didn't know you liked soccer?" And I don't exactly, but I love the World Cup, just like I love the Olympics, and so on. Sort of like java said, I can get all into it, feel some empathy for the winners/losers, and then go on with my day.

I have a lot of clients from Ghana and so I'm happy for them, also.

eta: I'll be rooting for Ghana because they are now the underdogs, I think. But also Brazil because, despite being such a huge team and sort of like rooting for the Yankees or the Cowboys, they love their futebol like no one else I have ever seen.

One of the reasons I'm rooting for the Netherlands is that they have been so solid for so long without winning the main event.
