I agree with #3, and the only way I can see #4 is that it defaults to #2.
I may have gone a bit heavy on the libertarian snark myself, but I was Ayn Rand libertarian myself for many years. I didn't agree with the Libertarian party platform, mostly because I thought its opposition to the draft was actually at odds with the libertarian view of the role of the central government.
In general, having a libertarian viewpoint makes one a fiscal conservative and a social liberal, which I generally am. However, when the Republicans got in bed with the religious right, they became what I saw as the bigger threat to my basic principles, including that the government has no place in social policy.
Also, I got older and realized that shit happens, no matter how self-sufficient you think you are. Whether or not it was at odds with some of my principles, I didn't want to live in a society where people are forced to live under viaducts or choose between food and medicine. Also, as became even more glaringly obvious from the behavior of executives at places ranging from Enron to Goldman Sachs, lack of regulation does not lead to a golden age. It leads to nature red in tooth and claw.
Speaking of shoes, I just got these and these on the super cheap at Nordie's Rack yesterday. I lurves me some Nordie's Rack.

So who or what is a Gundam? A transformer? Anyway, this is cool:
From Chop Shop comes this fantastic "Gundam Calling" t-shirt playing on the Clash's London Calling album cover which itself was a tribute to the design of Elvis's self-titled first album. Available in men's and women's sizes from the Boing Boing Bazaar! "robotRock (or Gundam Calling) Tshirt"
You know, I'd totally buy one of these if only it was a Cylon....
Ginger is pretty much me!
In short, I think that yes, he is a sexist, racist tool and his "principled beliefs" don't hold up past the most surface level of examination.
Yeah. And because he's second gen, I don't think he's ever really held them up himself past the most surface level of examination.
It's really a shame that the hardcore economic libs, many of whom are also social conservatives, are making up the walls of the echo chamber these days.
Though Wilkinson's still an interesting read from time to time. [link]
