I like Opera, I've just never made it my primary browser. Maybe I should try some time with version 10.

If one were to hypothetically work at a university, would one typically get the days that the university is closed off? And would these be paid days off?
Define "closed." Classes not being in session does not mean closed. We close for major federal holidays, and that's about it. I think it's 13 a year.
Add-Ons are the third-party extensions you can add into Firefox. To get to them, go to Tools->Add-Ons, and select the Extensions icon. You can enable/disable them at will there.
If Firefox is driving you crazy, Opera, Chrome, and even IE8 are all worthy alternatives. I can't say much about others because I haven't used them.
I honestly don't know. I'm looking at it from a student's perspective. There are days when my school is flat out closed. You can't go anywhere or do anything on campus.
When I worked at a uni, it depended on the office.
