Giles, if you would like to get by in American society, then you are going to have to follow our traditions. You're the patriarch. You have to host the festivities, or it's all meaningless.

And then Ortus came and said "It's Ortin' time" and they all Orted off into the sunset

Eh, I use salsa more often than not. I think "taco sauce" and "enchilada sauce" are runnier than salsa and have no chunky veggie pieces like onion and whatnot in it. (I think.) And it turns out just fine with salsa.

That's actually really good to know, since I also have salsa to use up! And half a Napa cabbage to stand in for the lettuce, which means I can make these with no shopping. Awesomecakes.

[edit: Wait, I'm not sure I have Monterrey Jack cheese. Might have to use cheddar. Eh, close enough.]

I look more rad than Lutheranism

How do you think it would go with a fruity salsa?

Oooh, interesting. I think I'd worry that the overall effect might be too sweet. But I've had fruity salsa that also managed to be spicy enough to make me cry, and if it's that kind of salsa, it might work.

an overblown libretto and a sumptuous score/ could never contain the contradictions I adore

My major culinary achievement for the day was to put chopped-up apples and cinnamon inside crescent rolls. They turned out okay. Made the house smell nice.

Well, hello, miss!

I ate a reuben wrap from TJs. And a fig bar. That was the sum total of my eating for the day. I might've been a little busy.

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

Mmm, a reuben wrap sounds delicious. I love a reuben!

My dinner (courtesy of Mom) was roast pork, roast potatoes, butternut squash, and chocolate bread pudding for dessert. Yummers!

It's really good. I love the rye tortilla. Just enough breadstuffs to not overwhelm. I wish they'd start carrying their spinach tortillas again.

Ohhh, I just bought some fig preserves at the Farmer's Market. I should go try some.

Have you ever had fresh fig? I love fig bars and such, but once was offered a fresh fig off my cousin's tree in Austin. Sun warm and omigod. I had no idea. Figs are magnificent.
