What should I get. Wine -- I'm thinking about a $25 bottle. Beer? Er...the sky's the limit, I guess.
There's so much to choose from!
Coming from England I think she'd probably like an IPA or something darker. You'd probably be fine getting any kind of copper colored ale.
Here are the winners from the Great American Beer Festival.
Scroll down and check out some of their winners among Pale Ales or Indian Pale Ales.
As for red wine, I don't like Merlot (too wimpy), prefer Zinfandel or Cab, and I've always found Pinot to taste like bananas. I also really like Northern Italian reds, like Docletta or Barbera.
Ravenswood is probably best known for their Vintner's Blend cheaper wines, but they do make super delicious Single Vineyard wines like their Dickerson.
Should be under $25.
Sorry Cindy -- also a non-wine-drinker here.
Sharktopus is rather much of a landshark.
I'll have to go to the liquor store and see if the have the Vampire wine in. I think it's actually from Transylvania, and it's pretty good, to this deeply cheap, uneducated palate.

Wow, that would make vacuuming fun....
I don't drink wine either. My BFF likes Bitch wine. But she smokes like the proverbial chimney, so her palate is probably not terribly discerning.
Red or white, Cindy?
Hmmm, La Crema makes a tasty chardonnay for somewhere between $13-18 dollars. Reds I'm less definitive about, partly because there's lots of tasty in that price range. Malbecs and Pinot Noir are popular right now. I like meritage blends too, but those often get way spendy.
My favorite zinfandel is Cosentino Cigar Zin. It's usually between $20-25, but it's hard to find.
I am a wine drinker, but I like Yellow Tail, Franzia box wine, and $5.99 Vendange Chardonnay, so not so much a connoisseur
At this age, I am usually shocked at how old I am, but after following the Shiny Happy Monsters from youtube i am SHOCKED to find out the Kate Peirson from the B-52's is oly 2 years younger than my mother!!!
Red, definitely (her and me). I drink the cheap-ass Yellow Tail and am fine with it, but a transcontinental visit deserves a bit more. I like Chiraz and Merlot, but my palate is wasted.
Hec, thank you for the suggestions. I'm ready and waiting for more, Hivemind.
I buy wine that has interesting/especially attractive labels. It usually works out okay.
