Zoe: Don't think it's a good spot, sir. She still has the advantage over us. Mal: Everyone always does. That's what makes us special.

Punishingly Intricate

How white is your neighbourhood? Detroit actually made me gasp out loud.

Wow, fascinating. Baltimore is still very segregated (not shocking, it's pretty hard to not realize this).

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

I mean, I knew that about Detroit. I lived there. I read the articles. I got the stares. But every time I see the pictures it makes me so sad.

brillig

The person I'm talking to has puppies crying in the background. It's difficult to work when my entire sub-brain is going "Cuddle the puppies! Make them stop crying!"

Stupid weird biological clock that wants baby animals.

Sir, it's not an offence to let your cat eat your bacon. Okay? And we don't arrest cats, I'm very sorry.

The Detroit map is scary: [link]

Especially the nice, straight (border) line....

information libertarian

I am also fascinated by the varying population densities of cities.

I heard many years ago that Milwaukee was one of the most racially-segregated large city in the US.

Looks like things haven't improved much: [link]

I'm actually impressed that MexicanTown shows up on the Detroit map. I thought it was an exercise in hype and restaurant marketing. I can't work out Dearborn though.

If you're going through hell/keep on going/don't slow down/keep your fear from showing/you might be gone/'fore the devil even knows you're there

I can't work out Dearborn though.

From the Milwaukee map:

To match his map, Red is White, Blue is Black, Green is Asian, and Orange is Hispanic

What's missing?

Our wings are not tired.

My neighbors are completely mixed, which is why I love my hood so, so much. I will say that they're all middle class, though - so it's not mixed in that way.
