tommy, DH has been involved with a few WWII aircraft museums and airshows for a while now. A P-51D ("Glamorous Gal") is part of Team Vandy-1, which is affiliated with the Wounded Warrior Project and what DH is currently working on/for.
I was supposed to go up in the Mustang a few weeks ago, but weather didn't cooperate. DH is at Jones Beach for the Memorial Day airshow. He was up in the Mustang today, and he's part of the crew on the C-47 and B-25 tomorrow and Sunday. He's been in the back of one of the only 2-seat Corsairs, but his ultimate goal is to fly one.
DXM's provenance, I'm afraid.
Oh yeah. I think I remember him posting about the different cowling shapes of different versions of the P-40.
If DXM lurks, he should go to the show in RI at the end of June. They'll be up there with the L-39 and the Mustang.
MFNlaw, that is so cool. Just hearing those old engines fire up sends a chill down my spine - I'd love to fly in one of those planes. I talked to a guy who paid for a ride on a B-17 - maybe I'll do that when they come around here again.

I'm sure it's on his schedule. He usually attends such shows in his neighborhood.
tommy, how hard would it be for you to get to Dayton or Cleveland? Chicago Air and Sea is still a possibility, but until they have a sponsor the schedule is in flux. I can't guarantee a ride, but you'd get to see her up close. And if Larry Kelley and Panchito (B-25) are there, then a ride suddenly becomes more of a possiblity.
That goes for anyone, BTW. DH and co. love talking about and showing off the old birds.

Well, I've been thinking of getting a car (I mean, a reliable one I can drive long distances)(shut up) so then it'd be easy. Or I could bus (train?) to Ohio or maybe ride with a friend.
Hmmm... I'll have to check my schedule.
Here's a few closeups of the Mustang. Watch the videos for some cool formation work.

As soon as they know which planes are going to be where, I'll let you know. Planning is good!
Maria'll hook you up with the planes. And for such an awesome project!
I just realize something really funny: Nora Roberts is a local, and some of her series revolve around huge MD families, and often has weird unlikely connects happening in her books. Happen to be reading her latest tonight. And I swear, my neighbor Sarah's family is the type she writes about. Local up in a county, but the connections are crazy. Close and in each other's pockets (one sister made an offer on a house...across from her parents and down the block from the hated sister.) Tonight, I was talking with the old high school friend, an ex of hers? Was in college with me. And then the brother-in-law, turns out, was best friends with hs friend's college roommate. And he's from Jersey. AND! Neighbor had a huge hs crush on a local barman who is a bit infamous in the news now. I'm like, SERIOUSLY?
This state is such a small town. And my neighborhood is a microcosm of it. I love feeling like I am integrating into it. Plus, really liked the sisters, hope to see much more of them.
How's MK, sara?
And you are totally right about MD, except for the lower portion of Montgomery County. They've got a superiority complex.
Feeling like you're integrating? Darlin', if you ain't integrated, then I don't know who is. It's your place, and your people.
