And then my coworker came in and said she'd just seen a student on a bike get hit by a car at the corner (that our office overlooks), so we looked out and saw the poor guy and the poor woman who hit him and while I didn't feel less sorry for myself, I did feel rather ashamed of feeling sorry for myself.

The decapitation thing is just weird:
Police explode pipe bomb near decapitated body
A man walking his dog this morning near an Evanston middle school discovered a decapitated body, perhaps the result of a pipe bomb explosion, and some hours later police exploded a pipe bomb found in the vicinity.
Police pushed the media back from the area after discovering what appeared to be an explosive device near the body, WGN-Ch. 9 reported about 8:40 a.m. Some residents were being evacuated from their homes. The Cook County sheriff's bomb squad was on the scene.
